Seibu Kaihatsu shmups are quite good in general
What else do they make? It seems strange that their art and sound is so on point when all they make are a couple shmup series. Or maybe that’s why it’s so good…
Shmups mostly like you said, though they also made Dynamite Duke, Empire City: 1931 and Dead Angle
My personal favorite is Viper Phase 1, had a pcb of it years ago
I played that once in an arcade and have wanted it ever since…
Raiden DX on PSX actually has a bonus soundtrack, the OST from Viper Phase 1
Yeah it's awesome
I saw that - just doesn’t fit Raiden though :/
True
Of all the games I grabbed at launch, it’s just weird how Raiden Project impressed me so much (and the wow factor didn’t wear off, unlike Toshinden)
Oh man, Toshinden. I had the longbox of that, Ridge Racer.. and Tekken maybe? I was a PSX teenager, none of that silly N64 kids stuff for me!(=P)
Cant forget this one
They also made Zero Team, an excellent beat 'em up
I picked up the longbox of wipEout when I bought my PSX; after that it was all rentals, HK silvers, then CDRs for the next 5 years.
Still have that original copy of wipEout for some reason.
Jumping Flash 1 was a long box game. Good stuff!
what a good game, I had never played it, I went to play and beat it non-stop, dying to go to the second game
is there any major difference between the JAP and USA version of this game? If not i do like being able to understand text, even in a shooter it is usually of minimal importance 😁
Oh and the one good thing about the cd32 controller is that it in fact had 6 buttons, vs the one or two on a standard stick used on the amiga. Altho one of the things i loved about mister is mapping keyboard stuff (space, shift etc) used in game to my joypad!
🙂
Noticed when loading the game Racingroovy VS that the game hangs on the Sammy logo for about a minute before getting into game. It's not a big deal and the game plays perfectly fine. Just thought I'd mention it
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue
Might be worth reporting that on github
Added
I accidentally grabbed the Saturn version, ignore my previous post
Have you tried other prototypes? Any of them worth checking out?
I'm about to test this one out.
https://tcrf.net/Proto:Mega_Man_X4/May_8,_1997_prototype
I'm not really into prototypes but there is a guy that got me intrigued with it
the website I found it on is pretty sketchy and if the game works, I'm re-uploading unless someone happens to have a less spooky source.
and it works 😎
I don't wanna break any rules by posting links but I got around to uploading the prototype.
There's an E2 error in Threads of Fate as soon as you get to the menu
but game is still works ok ?
Yes , the game works ok with E2 , so there is nothing to worry about.
#psx-chat message
it;s known
turn off error notifications and that's it
The bug was you!
a bug's life
Never seen this game before. Looks so good and so clean. I’m gonna steal it
I don't encourage stealing, but I do encourage you to check it out
Stopped playing when I saw how text heavy it was since i am not in the mood for text heavy games right now.
Ya that’s what I mean. Adding it to my bucket list of to play games
Sorry for digging this one up. Just wondering if some modified settings are needed (welp i guess they are hence me asking) but i never notice any gfx anomalies with my settings with ps1 games (on crt) but with this game i indeed see some corruption at the bottom of the screen. Any suggestions on what to tweak? Will provide a screenshot if it would help.
Oh and this is with the JAP version of F1 97 btw
Lol really? Well i do know from first hand experience the pal to 60hz setting worked very nicely. Will try. Cheers!
I was lured in by the bizarre creations bit. Not sure if they did the first one as well. Will give that one a go as well. Pretty sure i played it ‘back in The day’ as well on a rented ps1.
Cool! Big fan of msr and especially pgr3. F1 97 didn’t make a great first impression even taking the gfx issue out of the equation
Hehe we’d def need ‘the power of the playstation’ for that epic moustache!
here was a discussion of the NTSC-U version of the F1 game #1046940919607345272 message , the same situation is probably in the J version, cheers
Yeah, i linked to that in my og post. But if I understand correct the issue there was stuff being cut off, where i see to much! Could possibly be (fixed via) a setting i guess, but my other games seems fine. As I learned the pal version is the way to go 🙂
This was the reason I started watching F1. Remember I had to choose between this game and a Multi Mega (small Mega CD). I picked the game since I already had a Sony Disc man. Watching F1 was the best part of my teenage years (Michael Schumacher was my childhood hero). Even my son is named Michael. So probably everyone will tell me I made a bad choose not buying the Sega, but I think it was destiny. 😉
Couldn't agree more...
That man drove a mean F1 car at the height of his career, sometimes not afraid of pushing a rival off the track if push came to shove
If anyone is interested in testing negcon with rumble on duckstation (windows only).
This breaks compatibility with ridge racer 4.
I might try to port this feature over to the core if I can get it stable enough.
https://github.com/sonik-br/duckstation/releases
I always thought these were kind of interesting. The actual NES games ran on an emulator with ROMs hacked to disable the music, so the disc just either streamed the original 2A03 music or the arranged tracks from XA files.
So like.. MSU-1 before MSU-1. Or something.
Are you sure these run on emulation? Because I don't think the PS1 can emulate NES games.
Is the flight stick compatible via usb? The large twin stick one
Any recommended ps1/ps2 to usb for it?
Wow i didnt know all 6 were ported. Wish 7 was also done to complete it
Well someone ripped the headerless rom data with the music hacked to be silent out of the files years ago, so I'd assume so anyway. Maybe it used a proprietary engine and just pulled the resources from the ROM file like the Legacy Collection 1 did?
There is an NES emulator that runs on a real PS1.
I've ran it on my PS1 and on the core a long time ago.
It's not great, but it works, sorta and only for some games with simpler common mappers.
OMG my ears! That audio emulation sure is smooth criminal XD
But it's great to see those emulators from the past, wow, how have we evolved
My brother and I used to use the IMBnes emulator in the late 90s or early 2000s to play Dr. Mario and other NES games on a modded PSX. Since we never owned a NES and wanted to play with controllers.
Played a lot of IMBnes on my PSX as well back then!
yeah it was a nice way of playing. and with composite video on a CRT it felt pretty authentic
in retrospect there was input lag, but it still scratched that itch
That was also how I initially played the translated FF3. Good times
I've played a bunch of games on IMBNes too, including Samurai Pizza Cats.
Sram games saves and save states could be saved on Memory card.
It might be NES, right? 🙃
I bet NES on PS1 is a great experience..lol
Hell I'm sure it'll work well on Robert's core. 😄
Cool experiment but psx on mister already has a NES emulator it's called a NES core
What?? no way! 👀
I know I'm a kill joy .lol
I want an FPGA powerful enough for Dreamcast so I can run Bleem.
and then you can run IMBnes on that! 👀
I guess I can't judge.I was running a NES game on SNES earlier
I need to find a 68K NES emulator for Mac so I can do the Amiga -> Mac -> NES round trip on MiSTer just to be 'that guy.'
Looking for the emulation tower of power?
Sword of Omens: Give me Emu beyond Reason
could this work?
Looks like it's PPC only, so no 68K
oh.. bummer
It would be so stupid and fun to do.
I'mma try it!
Sweeeeeet!
So assuming I got a scph-1110 and use it via usb that treats both sticks as analog input, do I set the controller as dual shock with mode pressed?
it doesnt work probably, but you can try. if you can map the mode button to the cores switch button you can at least toggle the mode, but if the gsme sets the mode, the LED will not be correct
Not possible to map it. It's a switch and not a button. Switch changes from digital to analog only.
The SCPH-1110 is kind of one of those things that SNAC is for.
@wanton crown got RAM?
No I'm in Ôsaka right now
Needed a haircut and the japanese hair salon destroyed me
What did the guy did not understand in 横はちょっと長くて本の少し切ってくれませんか
Also the 32mb sd ram I ordered a few months ago is definitely lost
Picture or it didn’t exist 🙃
Hello. How i can install dual sram version of psx core? With update all? Manually?
manually from "test-builds"
#test-builds message
this is the latest
If i have the twin sticks and a usb converter that works with it, will it work for descent? Dont want to buy snac
Like any special settings?
Dont have the stick yet
it still amazes me how far out of your way you go to make things difficult on yourself lol
Unless someone else has tried this before, it looks like you're going to be the guinea pig on this one.
yes , pocket works ok
Is the legend of mana game good on pocket?
I think that's the only other english game other than ff8's
i would venture to say that none of the pocketstation games are 'good'
theres a couple that are novel, for their time.
PSX core have the option to emulate the dual analog controller. So if the usb adapter works, it should work inside the core too.
did you or anyone try on HW? i see that the game really hang on the logo, but i does the same for mednafen and duckstation. I mean, 1 minute of hang is unlikely on hardware, but before i invest time researching it....
I don't have real hardware so I can't test unfortunately. Can anyone else test this on real hardware?
maybe someone with xstation can...i only have psio and i don't use it for anything that could be CD related 😅
This is why I have a MiSTer, so I don't have to have real hardware 😁
i'm interested what is going on there... the game reads no CD sector for like 40 seconds. I have only seen something similar with die hard, which was related to memory card
ok that's the reason: if the memcard is removed, the game boots fast
same with using snac+real memcard as controller option, so it's not a timing issue or CD, but rather the emulated memcard
loading and saving ingame with virtual memcard is also super slow
That's interesting. So do you suspect this happens on real hardware with a real memory card or is this a byproduct of the virtual memory card?
that's the question. anyone with snac + real memcard could try on the core
i don't have my setup ready for this currently
when i tried, i only activated SNAC but had no memcard, so it behaves just like removing the virtual memcard
but that could explain why duckstation and mednafen also have the issue: if it's really related to virtual memcard, maybe the game has some odd non-standard code to access the memcard and no emulated memcard is prepared for that
or maybe it's a bug in the game.... stranger things have happened...
I'll check it , but I don't promise that I'll be able to do it today
indeed....i still assume strange things are bugs, especially when a game always takes very long to boot. But maybe this wasn't tested much by the developers
I saw a game bug the other day on PC Engine...it's helpful to have real hardware/software around to verify
i should have bought a xstation modded psx last year, but somehow always tried to get through with what i have. If it's for verify and not for debugging, someone here always tested and i had my excuse 😅
for executing tests, PSIO is much more useful than xstation due to direct USB connection, but unfortunatly not for verifying real games
yeah, for PC Engine, there is no substitute for real hardware and real games... too much variance otherwise
now PSIO is cracked i think some people are working on making it actually useful for debugging/dev
RacingGroovy - I tested with snac turned on for port 1,2.
with virtual MC it hung on sammy logo for about 50 seconds
with real MC in port 1, it hung for 50 seconds also
with no MC it only stays on sammy logo for about 13 seconds
This probably needs checked on real HW, i suspect it will be the same or close
Thanks for checking 👍🏻
is this the US version?
I think there is only a Japanese version
yeah I tested japan version, not sure it's in other regions unless it has a different name
Racinggroovy - real ps1 with xstation and mem card - 47 seconds on Sammy logo
Wow, nice 👍🏻
Testing now without mem card
So this game just works like this
Great, Thanks!
Np
Thanks for testing Splash. yeah i'd say no bug and time differences may just be when we started the stop watch
Or maybe xstation if its faster at reading the disc
ok, will close the bug then @wise cargo
Good deal. Glad to have verifed this is normal behavior 🙂
and no worries. i doubt anyone would have thought nearly 1 minute is normal behavior 🙂
especially since ingame it also takes ages to save and load, not just booting up
i guess they could of like pulled the card to save a minute booting up then plugged it in later
Maybe they didn't use memory cards 🤣
maybe they played diablo before
i didn't test how much, but booting up only writes one sector like every game that "just reads"
one write to test if writing works at all
Looking at Guardian Legend, it seems to do a very strange thing when entering the in-game menu, like a corrupt frame or something like that. Has anybody else noticed? Such a bad game, but well, I saw that.
It's a psx game?
I can't find this game
Can someone reproduce this?
I seem to have some video flicker running 240p Test Suite on the latest (v230218?) PS1 core. This appears in both analog video and HDMI.
I don't see this flicker on my real PS1.
Yes, it's a known issue
Ah, sorry! I mean "Guardian's Crusade". 😄
This is not a bug
Game changes resolution when entering menu
Somewhat common in PSX menus; no problem for the original analogue out, painful for HDMIs
This game even changes the resolution during dialogues with npc 🙃
And I agree it is not a good game
@ivory verge Ah, so what I see is an HDMI "artifact", right?
Yeah
Oh, great, thanks Kuba! 🙂
No prob!
there is an option for inserting a black frame in the OSD. This might be useful in such a case or make it worse, you need to try
play with it. it's a playstation.
PITCHFORKS AT THE READY FOLKS! https://youtu.be/gnw53GIOvvo
The PlayStation 1 has a huge and awesome library of games, but making them look good on modern TV's can be tricky. Duckstation is an emulator that not only allows you to play on your various devices, but the upscaling technology makes the games run and look AMAZING.

I guess if people want to play it that way, that's fine. I don't really see the point tbh
I have more of an issue with the misinformed dude talking ..
But yeah to each their own
I don't trust anyone that wants to erase the texture warble and dithering associated with the PS1.
It's all fun and games until someone changes the gif that the hyperlink blockchain is linking to
It’s not erasing, it’s fixing what Sony couldn’t.
plus that’s stuff has been the norm for years. Imagine playing MiSTer without HQ2X, god all the games would look like awful pixel messes.
People are actually playing 3D games on the PSX and Saturn cores?
I do SotN runs everyday, always with widescreen, texture smoothing, and HQ2X. I’m convinced this is what Hideo Kojima would’ve wanted if he made that game today.
you are using the flight stick, no?
Of course. Maximum throw means maximum control.
Two sticks for complete versatility too.
Nobody wants to hear about you playing green hill zone in SOTN, zoomer
Hideo Kojima, are you trolling
No he did Lords of Shadow, shows what you know jabroni
I photoshopped Iga's then beardless face onto cheeseball dracula on the us haunted castle poster, I know who made castle- er akumaj- er.. you know what I mean!
lol
They actually changed the japanese title to castlevania on one game in the 00s, it didnt go well and they backpedaled
But why? Were they trying to globalize the brand?
Probably
Apparently LOS series is also called Castlevania in japan
Never liked those
Dems fighting words ..
I bought the first LOS game when it came out, the first level was okay.. then it wanted me to play some shitty horse riding quicktime event game and I turned it off and never played again.
joke's on him, my PS1 games already look incredible.
The 2D ones generally do 😉
They have aged better (personal opinion)
I mean I dunno.. some early 3D is fun. I Robot anyone?
i'm playing dino crisis right now, looks great
do you remember where the guy whose fingerprints i need is btw?
i don't like looking up answers but i'll ask rando internet people 😄
elevator hall ?
could be, i think thats still locked for me right now
i've got a pair of DDK keys that need to go into a door somewhere, its probably that one
It is literally so slow it's unusable. BUT.... it's running!
MiSTer > Amiga > Mac > NES
UPDATE 1/15/12: This ROM can be downloaded at: mediafire(dot)com/?nymyhzwmmwn Enjoy!
A bootlegged NES version of Windows 98.
Complete with Chinese letters and wrongly interpreted versions of real Windows 98 software.
You can't press many/all buttons in many of the "applications" and is generally a novelty item more than anything serious overall...
Ill do you one better
Excellent, it's running
Is it possible for the mister to emulate pocketstation just to get the raw save data?
Like i copy the data and save it to ps2 and transfer it to a real pocketstation?
Basically me not wanting to get a snac for it
You have literally every other peripheral under the sun but you don’t want to buy a SNAC adapter? Why?
- Don't want to buy more controllers for psx. Don't want to open that can of worms
- Have a pi already connected to serial
- Analog twin stick thing works with tge usb dongle i found.
- Buying pocket station mostly for nostalgia (washer killed it)
Probably wont use pocketstation but you know want the option lol
I do not like That Youtuber but some games do benefit from duckstation's modifications. Like certain adventure or survival horror games
Very possible but no one is interested in doing a core so far.
However you can use a SNAC adapter plus a PS1 multi tap and can connect your PocketStation that way
Oh i guess that could work instead of getting that more expensive snac
You mean the MisterAddons SNAX? As far as I know only the newest SNAC adapters work with PS1.
There’s one from AliExpress that I think works just fine, even has a memory card port.
It’s from retrocastle, I have it and a SNAX, both work great
Ohhhhhh nice!
So you don’t even need a multi tap with that one right? Just plug the PocketStation into the mem card port?
Correct
I got it for my MiSTercade setup specifically so I didn’t have to keep a multi tap inside the cab cluttering things up
@hot marsh I think the RetroCastle adapter might be perfect for you based on on what Kajoq said. I imagine it’s also way cheaper to get it shipped to you.
Whatever suits your needs … it’s just funny to me how dude just finally discovered software emulation and is touting it as a breakthrough of some sort ..
For views .. it’s absurd
yeah. It's pretty ridiculous
That's basically how Nolan acted after Tenet. Like SciFi didn't exist before and he just figured it out.
He's just another youtuber from what I can see. I don't get your end goal or if you are trying to send a mob his way. If it's bothering you so much best just to move on.
I was just trying to get peoples opinion on his video .. that is all ..
Asking for opinions by saying "PITCHFORKS AT THE READY FOLKS!"?
Well here's one opinion. He looks like another youtuber covering games/news. He seems to be putting effort into his videos and has an audience sitting at 458K subscribers. More power to him I guess but Will I personally watch his content? Not really.
I thought the video was terrible so I disliked it. Ofc you shouldn't attack someone just for making bad videos though. He's probably a decent enough guy
But also I think the whole "pitchforks at the ready" was understood to be a joke
It is
Gameception 😦
Tenant?
"The thrilling story of life in an apartment"
Hah! I don't even see autocorrect mistakes anymore. I'm on a Surface Duo II. The keyboard is 90% wishful thinking.
Fixed
Just noticed that edits propagate to quotes in replies too, that's handy
This bar is certain death for any word with a last letter on the top row.
Ha, I can see how that would be annoying
I feel the distinction is mostly nostalgia, if you played and loved the games back then it’s fine, if you didn’t making the gfx ‘better’ hmm i guess more up to date with todays standards is less subjective 😅 is an option to help. For me the combo of the og gfx AND early 3d controls is why i am not interested in most ps1 (or sat/n64) 3d games. Still do enjoy wipeout and sega rally, i guess the controls and genre help!
I like both. I play PS1 for fun via Mister and a PVM. For streaming I tend to use the settings (via emulator) to disable dithering/texture warping/wobbling/etc because Twitch has a horribly low bitrate limit and not sending an ultra detailed mess to the encoder helps
Allow me to ask: Do Prince of Persia and/or Dungeon Master II work right using the Mac emulator on the Amiga core?
why aren't you asking in the amiga channel.... wherever that is
get outta here amigafan
this is ridge raaaaceeeer territory
Thing is, Andy D commented here about the Mac emulation on the Amiga core, so that's why I asked here. But I won't derail conversation more than that, sir 🙂
whoa whoa whoa, i'm not a moderator. you do as you please buddy. lol
amiga plebs
Yep i was of course joking when I said pitchforks at the ready lol
late to the convo but of that emulation chain:
MiSTer > Amiga > Mac > NES
the slowdown is definitely at the Mac layer since everything prior are running as fast if not faster than real HW
I was gonna try this on my Macintosh Plus but I see that it requires at least a 68040....hahaha
not following
030/040 on Amiga was a productivity software thing
No games were ever targeted to that level
(At least the ones released during the Amiga's lifespan)
certainly LOTS of games play much better.
but when you qualify with "targeted"...
i didn't understand your earlier comment.
you wrote that more games can be played when ___ but then said why you're not into those cores
"When you have increased range in a car, you can travel to places not possible otherwise.
That's why I don't use those cars."
There would have been zero incentive for games publishers to create games with those higher end machines in mind
The Amiga market was bifurcated in a very binary way
On one hand you had your European kids/teens in their bedrooms playing games/coding demos on their A500s and 600s
Then you had the American broadcast market rendering Lightwave animations and using the Toaster for video wipes and transitions
oh fosho you don't target a super small population of al already small population as a requirement for games to run.
that wasn't what I implied.
I mean that many games esp the early 3D ones were pretty unplayable even by during era standards w/o a CPU bump
THe market for Amiga high end gaming was pretty much non-existant
Compared with the PC, which had much more middle ground between business and gaming users
--
that said, nearly every game I enjoy on the Amiga were from the stock 68000 era
--
I don't play Doom/Heretic/Hexen type games on the Amiga 🙂
Yeah, I don't even bother with "Doom on the Amiga" type games, because quite frankly they were surpassed by PC at that point
depends on which PC era....
Gaming on pre 286 era PCs was rough unless you only enjoyed CRPGs or strategy games
286/386 era was getting there with some 2D games
The gems are the earlier Amiga stuff like you said, which were a whole other level when compared with Tandy, CGA, PC speaker games
wasn't until 486 and discrete GPUs came along where PC gaming stood its ground
yeah fosho
mid to late 80's Amiga gaming / computing felt like the future came early
went from clunky PC titles and low-fi 8bit titles to stereo sound and super fast and big graphics
like overnight
Yeah, got my 500 in late 87 and was blown away, as were my family and friends
it was like going from CGA and blips to a Genesis
Mind you, I was coming from the 2600 😆
like Gen2 to Gen4
wow, you literally skipped a step!!!
hahahaha
me:
2600
C64
Amiga
PC 😦
although technically the NES and SMS squeezed their way in too
My cousin had a NES which at least gave me the chance to play Castlevania, SMB3, etc.
But I always thought the palette was so drab and uninspiring even compared with the 2600
i felt similarly w/ C64 games after experiencing that 256 color palette that 2600 and 8bit atari computers had
Yeah, C64 colours were even worse
I've warmed up to the NES these days
but still can't really stomach the C64 palette
--
although the NES felt like a NeoGeo at the time bc my friends and I would bike to the neighborhood conveneience store to play SMB1 and so when I saw how the NES SMB was near identical, I flipped my shit.
esp it was being sold at K-Mart for $99
I begged for one by parents were like, bitch you already have an atari and computer, why do you need this?!?
--
during that era, every home game was comapred to the "arcade". and we ate up shitty ports after shitty ports bc what else are you going to do?
the world order was:
arcade shit was the best
You get what you get at home and like it
--
so when the NES came out and the games were like their arcade PCBs... wow
NES came out was I was starting High School and getting big into girls
so games kind of fell by the wayside
But picked up again when I got my Amiga
ha, my girl phase was delayed until last year of HS and college.
so I have a 5 year gap with gaming from 90-95!
while I had an Amiga in the late 80's and early 90's, gaming stopped pretty much after my 1st copule of Amgia years
i know!
MiSTer is great for catching up on stuff you missed the first time round
just Marble Madness bc that was an 80's thing
yeah man that's how i got back into retro. started 2-3 weeks after covid lockdowns started in 2020Q1
If I could go back in time a few decades and show myself the MiSTer, my mind would be blown...
but NOT because I have every game I ever dreamed of for every system at my fingertips (stored on a tiny card the size of my fingernail and playable with every arcade or console controller)...
My mind would be blown because I have access to all this stuff, but somehow I'm still playing 2600 games 🙃
hahahaha.
Admitedely I didn't imagine that something like this would be possible bc at the time I would think "why?" bc I would just play the newest games
if I thought this stuff wuld be fun later, I wouldn't have sold them. but hey time value of money and all that
Exactly, 40 years of going after the latest and greatest and sticking the old stuff in boxes in the basement
Now all that old stuff is more fun than PS5 for some reason
well there are several things that don't include nostalgia.
I don't enjoy several hundred hour long games as much any more. so games I can pick up, put down are more appealing
but now I can go back and hit up older RPGs
plus, with the benefit of hindsight, you aren't as likely to play a big dud
although I did get bitten playing through Earthboound. I get why ppl like it but as a game, it's not very good
To be fair, I never lost my awe and reverence of arcade games
Even just Donkey Kong or Ms. Pac Man in a mall 20 years later
although in 2023, I don't really enjoy some of those big titles any more.
fortunately there are hundreds of popular title (as defined by sales and number of home ports) left to still enjoy
Yeah, those big 100 hour excursions were amazing when expansive virtual worlds were a new thing
But once you've saved the world dozens of times all that redundant lore doesn't seem so important anymore
I do like games w/ fun loot/griding
Yeah, dopamine hits still pull me in after all these years
Yeah I played Earthbound after hearing everyone hype it up for years and I was utterly disappointed. It was like a 5/10 for me. Enjoyable at times but honestly just really bland most of the time imo
Characters and story were almost nonexistent, and the gameplay was super standard
yeah Earthbound is less of a game (let alone an RPG) and more of an interactive story
That kinda makes sense I guess although I felt it was kinda lacking in that department too tbh
I did find the aesthetic and humor charming enough though
it had a nice tone that is diff than other games, i'll give it that
But it didn't blow me away or anything
yeah
Yeah definitely unique
It did get much more interesting in the last hour or two though
one of the few sunk-cost games that forced me to finish bc by the time I realize the game wasn't gonna ramp up, i had already spent so much time on it
Yeah same here
Perhaps you both might have enjoyed it more had your expectations not been driven up by others?
#1046941029296779344 message @upper forge it's very fun game! thanks
Hoping for help describing a bug before I'd add a GitHub report. Can't seem to search the "PSX" thread to check for previous discussions or potential fix.
PAL Analog output can ~~often ~~have a sort of "warble?". Visuals jitter up and down, but not always. Often on the PSX boot menu, but for a game example this is Final Fantasy VIII. (EDIT: Attempts to find in other games failed. Maybe it is only the FF8 intro and the odd boot screen)
PAL, RGB, vga_mode=rgb; composite_sync=1
Checking my PS2 (no longer have PS1), the visuals do fluctuate in intensity, but the up/down jitter is not present.
The same scene from the intro cutscene looks fine on NTSC. Same INI setings.
NTSC, RGB, FF8 intro again
Any potential fix or user error I might be missing? On previous play I thought to myself maybe it was always this way. Does get a bit tiring on the eyes though!
So this is for PAL RGB?
Ya. Does the same thing on Composite too via adapter
Once you skip the cutscene, the "New Game" screen has no obvious image shake then. It seems odd
might be all the places you're seeing it are interlaced
check for it just in the bios thats 480i
Will do. Didn't record the resolution output. It was only intro cutscene. The "New Game" cutscene seemed fine, FFIX was fine, etc...
I'll check it now
Might be it.
Boot Screen: 704x576i
PAL FF8 Intro (as in video): 704x576i
PAL FF8 New Game Screen (looks good): 405x288
PAL FF8 New Game Cutscene (fine again): 352x288
I'd foolishly went from intro to new game cutscene thinking they'd be similar. Guess not.
Also....
NTSC FF8 Intro (as in video): 704x480i. Maybe it is PAL "480" (which seems to be 576i in the core)
Thanks very much. Clarifies the issue nicely! I don't suppose you know any other 480i (or 576i) examples I could use to test before I make the report?
menus in silent hill, dino crisis and chrono cross are all interlaced
Thank you
check and make sure you have "sync 480i for hdmi" turned off
under video & audio
not certain but that might affect it
Not sure if better or worse. "sync 480i for hdmi" had been On.
When switched to OFF, OSD menu now flickers, and quiet a lot too. The cutscene section I'd noted looks perhaps a little better. I think it is still shaking though... starting to doubt my eyes
Is this how "sync 480i for hdmi" is intended then?
I saved the setting OFF, then restarted the core. The PS boot icon looked perfect. 576i.
Though, the Memory Card - CD Player scene immediately after, still 576i, is shaking.
I then loaded FF8 again, no shaking at all in the cutscene. Not sure what to make of that.
System had been set to AUTO. Noticed on boot it quickly starts around 60Hz before going down to PAL. Setting core to PAL, saving, and resetting the core fixed the boot (Now showing PAL boot, not NTSC menu forced into 49.7Hz).
FF8 still did seem to have a little jitter, though perhaps that's just staring too long at interlaced.
TLDR: Seemingly a difference in how NTSC and PAL are handled. But is this "sync 480i for hdmi" working as intended then?
Thanks very much Freddo. Got a workable fix at least for sure!
even when iits working perfectly you're going to see a little up/down motion on long horizontal edges
thats just normal interlacing
it might be more obvious at 50hz since its moving slower
you should never activate "sync 480i for hdmi" when using analog out. As the name says, it's only for HDMI(scaler) to not loose sync on interlaced<->non-interlaced switches. The result is, that it makes interlaced content run with non-interlaced timing
Thinking of buying a PS1 controller ports and a generic PS1 snac adapter. Are the memory card PCBs easy to remove and solder to?
You could just order the ps1 snac adapter from retrocastle which has memory card slots already installed
I could but I'm not paying 5x the price for something I could do that doesn't even come with an extension cable
the was MC addon pcb you can use with the "generic" PS1 snac adapter. not sure if anyone sells them though
maybe @tall rover had some
I've been summoned! What is it that you are looking to put together? You looking for a SNAC adapter, but looking to wire it into a more consolized setup?
I have parts for 5 PSX SNACs with MC addon boards, 1 already built and ready to ship, and parts for 3 extra MC boards.
Are you looking for something more custom/not fully assembled? We could work something out.
Here's my shop, but let me know if you want something more custom
https://www.etsy.com/shop/CrankyPizza
If I don’t, I get wobbly boot screens over analog.
But my TV seems to be “special”
MikeS had to tweak several yc cores because my tv wasn’t handling them right. And it’s a Trinitron which makes it all the odder.
I like how it asks the question “Winner?” in the thumbnail fully knowing that no matter which version is “better” we’re all losers for playing it.
"Hey look at this comparison and tell us which turd has the best polish on it!"
Don't get too close they smell the same
I think Time Commando was onto a good idea but their execution was terrible. If it had fun action gameplay and was built for the arcades I think it could’ve found an audience.
LOL @upper forge I was thinking of Perfect Weapon
Damnit, I don’t own Time Commando
LOL Perfect Weapon is awful. It’s like Time Commando but really shitty.
So it's recursively shitty?
I got those two games mixed up. I remember now, Time Commando was cool. I played it on PC.
Uhm..Im looking at a video of Time Commando on PC
I feel I've been trolled
Like I was expecting Daikatana but more competent and got a dude in spandex slap fighting a caveman
Yeah, like it’s not great now. But at the time it was novel enough.
Like @upper forge said, it’s basically like an evolution of Alone in the Dark. It looked really good at the time, especially on PC.
I mean you can always forego Alone in the Dark, and play Sweet Home instead
That game rocks
I never played the Little Big Adventure games sadly
Wow, I’m gonna have to play it on MiSTer tonight
For fans of games like Time Commando or Alone in the Dark, Fear Effect 1 and 2 are worth trying as well on PS1
I still haven’t tried them and I own both for PS1 😅
I played quite far on Fear Effect 1 but never finished it
The attract more demo that runs if you wait a while on the main menu in Time Commando reveals some good hints, for example where to search in the first screen to find a shard to use as weapon, etc.
Nice game IMO. Colony wars also uses that hi res 640x240 resolution, it is quite unusual but the effect is cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vlh7JfAtvY
did you manage to sit through that
日本語とEnglish chat is okay here! Practice English or 日本語 FOR HARDCORE BIOHAZARD/Resident Evil Fans here!
A TV production crew are making a documentary about the infamous painter Mamiya Ichiro. When they start filming at his old home, they come under attack from the ghost of the painter's wife.
A video game was also released for the Nintendo Ente...
I've seen it yeah, I thought it was pretty decent for its time
Brutal. I've never gotten through Sweet Home either. Just a poser.
Better than the movie Ghost Lion NES is based on thats for sure
If only there was a Cheetamen II movie...
Kabuki Quantum Fighter's FC version is based on a movie called Zipang! with ninjas dressed in black trash bags though
Must... otaku...
Just let it happen
I got to the very end of sweet home but I never finished it, gets a bit tedious with how much you have to travel around for the last few puzzles
oh wait we're talking about watching the movie lol
nevermind
I've had a copy downloaded for years but never watched more than the opening scenes
It’s a pretty cool movie if you’re into that era of special effects and screenplay. A lot of the effects were done by Dick Smith (he worked on the Exorcist and the godfather etc)
Furutachi Ichiro (who plays the cameraman in the movie, dressed in all red) is a an announcer that you see quite a lot of on tv these days
*on Japanese tv, that is
Manage? That is a great film. Terrific practical effects.
Jesus christ @tropic stratus your latest patreon post 😍😍😍
Kinda feel dirty discussing it in the psx channel 😜
I would rather have kept it private for longer, but i guess that doesn't work well together with patreon. It's not fair to stay so long in silence. People should know what they support
Better buy some N64 controllers before they dry up 😁
Thank you, was spending many many hours the last days to finally get a game nice looking 😅
someone post a gif of the n64 kid
Have you met Merlin , what is the magic ingredient in this?
Mad respect for bringing the N64 on FPGA.
it's too late for calm
well if anyone can do it Rob can 😄
N64 core channel please 😛
isn't there n64 cartridges bigger than 128mb?
Mbytes or mbits?
Google says 4 to 64mb
the Resident Evil 2 ROM is 64 MBytes
Wow! I thought the cpu clock speed and memory bandwidth made this one a no go?
People will say the same thing when srg320 announce the dreamcast core
Someone edit that pic of the N64 cart plugging into the mister with the red circle.
I been saying for a while I thought it might be N64
Glad I've signed up to your Patreon! Now it's more than worth it. Never expected this. My love for the N64 is the same. The video store had a Japanese N64 for rent. I've spent all my money on it for months. Every time I had it for the weekend I didn't sleep and played Mario 64 for 24 hours straight. Such beautiful memories. ❤️
N64 is my favorite console ever! This is so hype!!!
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYtUqQLV/ even letting my kids play the N64. This was a few days ago.
Ignore me, I read the patreon
To all the people who insulted me when I asked if there were N64 games that could play with shortcuts and below clock speed, I say: if you can’t be technically specific about why something isn’t possible, maybe don’t say anything discouraging.
actually the shortcut solution was my initial plan: only make the decompile projects (Mario64, OoT, Mario Kart,...) run with a custom CPU and otherwise normal N64 components. But well, if you go so far, you can just also do the CPU. Even if it really requires a hack or two, it's still better than a custom CPU
Robert putting all of those "not possible" advocates in the shame corner! 😛
For all intent and purposes, we had many FPGA experts here stating it was impossible
Sorry for anyone that took a hit on that, but we all thought it couldn't be done
@tropic stratus you lost your mind 😉 n64? 🙂
I agree. It’s nice to know my instincts weren’t too far of 🙂
There are many projects where we can't put a finger on if it's possible or not, so most stay silent with hope. But N64 was one of those that most people put their foot down
i said it myself: some years ago i made a very quick prototype of the cpu. non-working, just to check the timing and it came out at 85 Mhz in a empty FPGA. That's why i intially also scraped the idea and did Lynx, Wonderswan and PSX instead. But over time, you learn more things
i still think we will not reach timing closure for 93mhz, but that doesn't mean it cannot run. PSX turbo improvements showed that there are other ways to improve the performance if it needs to
I believe I asked “how many games would run fine at 80mhz since they might be blocked on memory or RDP anyway?” 😉
the answer is: most. E.g. play a game on ares today. It effectly underclocks the CPU massivly due to wrong cache timing
yup. Part of my question was based on my experience with UltraHLE and other early N64 emulators
(I based my first startup, BugScan, around the ideas I learned about symbolic execution from HLE)
Project 64 is even better. It has a database of games telling if the cpu with that game should run with 93mhz or 50% or 33% speed
Oh nice, the data already somewhat exists then! 😄
I assume a better cache Implementation might also alleviate some of the loss in clock speed by eliminating some fetches
maybe even a “simple” prefetch, depending on if that would help specific games
Get a N64 room channel, guys! 😛
Hey just wondering, would you say the things you've learned up to now may help in improving NDS on the MiSTer?
I guess there's not much you can do about the ram speed
would be awesome if so
the original DS design i made was depending on the RAM to be internal to have instant access, like with the real device. If they are not, the whole GPU part has to be designed to be able to work with buffered, prefetched and cached data, otherwise it's not possible in the DE10-Nano due to internal RAM shortage. But of course it's not 100% accurate anymore then.
Yeah so you'd be sacrificing quite a bit of authenticity to overcome that hurdle
Brandon gets an n64 for christmas 1998 and gets way too excited
Any inquires, feel free to contact us at [email protected]
while reading the twitter feed right now 😄
Im like more excited than when Robert dropped the psx2x core
I think you kids are confused. This is the channel for the edgy teenager 3d console.
Baby's first 3D is over here - https://discord.com/channels/647909397477195803/1096015979055697940
Don’t you mouth off to me !
Listen to your elders, you hooligan
Violent Ken first appearance ~
Playable first in SVC Chaos
I love that one, Fatal Fury The Motion Picture too
Theres an FMV game that does IIRC
Same mold as Super Adventure Rockman
Fun fact - Cham Cham is playable on Samsho 4 Special on PSX
Is there a master list of all the extra features/options the PSX core has over original hardware?
Danke
Kein problem 😉
@ivory verge are you going to be part of the N64 party? 😄
nice
he will play the 5 or so games the console has to the fullest
As an edgy PSX teenager I decry baby's first 3D console and demand Twisted Metal tourneys
So got my psx port replacement for ps1 and it looks like i can just solder directly on the mem card slots of the snac
If i do that, the controller ports would work too right? The snac has the 9 controller ports exposed
Will probably look for a ribbon cable and connector and use those
all pins are shared on both ports except one, so you'd need to wire 9 wires to one port and wire 1 to the other port
Confession time. I didn’t really like Castlevania until Symphony of the Night
Incredible game though.
Chronicles must have disappointed you
If you were aware of it anyway, it was a weird budget release that kind of flew under the radar at the time
Yeah I skipped out on it
I played the NES games and enjoyed them, and rented Super Castlevania. They were fun games but I was never into the movie monster stuff.
But damn, the art in SotN was really good
X68000 is my favorite game in the whole series, but I really like Universal/Hammer horror influenced games a lot so it skews my preferences
Ayami Kojima is a wonderful artist
Im fine with Iga's direction of the series SOTN-onward for the most part
it only got crappy when Mercury Steam did their games
yeah I appreciate that stuff now
I really enjoyed the GBA trilogy
I was probably peak Castlevania fan then
If you're a lore nerd than Grimoire of Souls has some fun fanservice. Characters from different time periods talking to each other and stuff. The gameplay is worthless but a youtube video of the game where Simon talks to Maria is priceless
GBA ones are good, I like COTM a lot
I mean the leveling and multiple weapons made it fun
I havent gone far on sotn but have finished gba and ds games
this reminds me, I should get back to my punching only playthrough that I started on my MiSTer last year...totally forgot where I stopped, I think I might have gotten to the inverted castle
so I come back from Japan and learn about the n64 core ?
my god Robert is literally a god among men
Robert delivers! Differently than your RAM seller!
Yeah excited about that core but will probably take time to boot a retail game
Are there any must have controllers?
Only have twin stick and og dpad. Dont care about racing
What about trains and fishing? You may want to consult with @serene nebula about those.
Probably not on those
AWWWWW
I do have the fishing stick on dc
I was so excited to talk about Densha de Go!
Well i will check it out
Like train conducting
Is ps1 or dc the best for densha?
Or god forbid n64
LOL
I’d say PS1 because of the options
Densha de Go final for the PS2 is “the best” but it’s not on MiSTer so
The PS1 games are all fun though. Don’t play the first one, it’s straight up arcade difficulty and super strict lol.
Play 2 with a regular controller to see if you like it. If you do, great. If you don’t, also great.
Well ps1 is sold kinda xheap here
Like $30 with box
Maybe i will get it for the lols
the little indentation in the middle is for a pocket watch
I thought it was a dumb idea for a drink lol
Wow controller can be used on a ps4 and switch successor game
Via converters
Oh nice
Any game that can use this well?
Ultraman game controller
Thinking for bishi bashi but some games use triggers
I also blame robby if I start buying all sorts of PS1 controllers
sadly negcon and jogcon are not available
A model with just the square button would be perfect for God of War on the PS2
Would be good for hand DDR
Join me, brother
Funny cause I liked Castlevania until SOTN 🤣
Which is your favorite stage based vania
lol I get it! It’s such a stark contrast.
I absolutely love the 2D games now though. They’re so great, I don’t think I had an appreciation for them as a kid. Like I thought they were neat but just never got into them.
Two hits from a medusa head into a pit deters most children
It was probably the difficulty and lack of bright cartoony graphics.
IV and it's not close
I hear that a lot. I think it's just a pinch overrated, but I respect the Treasure hustle.
I absolutely love it. The Chronicles PSX port is welcome, but the controls are kind of floaty, and it has some dithering turned on for some reason(easily turned off in PSX core nowadays)
I used to do full 6 loops on my XVI Compact all the time
I've never been able to defeat a Castlevania game
Holy shit. I have never seen this controller before. What does it work with ?
Just play SOTN, it's a cakewalk.
I get lost lol
I tried with a walkthrough and lost interest somewhere in the upside down castle
I need to go back and finish it
Go farm dual Crissaegrim and dual Ring of Varda, you can crush anything in the reverse castle with ease except maybe Galamoth
For one I tried farming that thing and didn't find any, for two, my issue isn't difficulty
With that game I either get lost or just don't enjoy it lol
Im sorry I dont think there is anything I can do for you, Im going to have to pull the plug
Fun story. First time I played SOTN was the Japanese import with like no translations yet available. And I got the crissaegram as just a random drop without even trying. Kinda ruined the game with how trivial things suddenly were.
It is ridiculously OP
And I didn’t even know - I just thought it was an normal expected weapon drop n
You can do crazier stuff with the shield rod but yeah criss is pretty much a game breaker
このゲームをしたことがありません。どんなアイテムですか 武器や装備んですか
And let me tell you - not knowing what items do sure made the Galamoth fight /interesting/
Two games, the first one is “Jet de Go!”
I’ll let you guess what the other game is.
beryl circlet
Ace combat 3 of course ! 😂
Thanks , I’m curious now ! I’ll check eBay
I WISH, Jet de Go 2 lol
I know that now but back then all I saw was ベリルサークレット
If gear didn’t make numbers go up I didn’t have the time to try and figure out it old school d&d style
Where there is a will there is a way
How do you learn all this stuff
I wouldn't know any of that just playing it
Not from a Jedi
Don't need to be a Jedi I'll take whatever I get

Anyone own a v pick?
Also surprised there's a tambourine controller
Kinda wanna buy it
That looks great for port 2 reload trigger for light gun games (use as foot pedal?) Some allow using face buttons from port 2 to reload
Yeah forgot about that although i prolly should finish my gun4ir
Wrong channel, baby's first 3D is over here

We are asserting nintendos dominance over Sony
The CRT is having a seizure, I would too if someone plugged that piece of crap into me
The n64 is the superior machine and you know it!
Superior.. FOR ME TO POOP ON
Well that may be so .. but no amount of defecation is gonna change the fact that the n64 is simply a stronger more capable machine
It's strength lies in it's storage capacity clearly 😉
In all seriousness, we should probably exchange some great PS1 games to check out on the core.
Absolutely.
Lets start with some softballs.
Adventures of Little Ralph is a good place to start.
Happy Jogging in Hawaii is weird and had great draw distance for the full “im in a pixelated hellscape” vibe it has going
PSX has a couple exclusive English translations of Japanese arcade games on namco museum 4 and 5.
PlayStation Doom: Master Edition. DoomWiki page by @Dark Pulse Finally, Beta 4 is released NEWS: Fourth Beta Release PSXDOOM BETA 4 [11/16/2022]. Genji and Heiki Clans is the one on Namco Museum 4, cant a video on it without some youtuber talking over the top of it though
any recommendation for a short game (<5 hours) that is not boring and does not rely on skill? searching something for the evenings. The last one with that style i played was Stuart Little 2. It was ok.
N64 is so hyped that people is ignoring the creator of the PSX core 😔
I’m playing DQVII, 90 hours so far and still on CD 1 🫣
No skills needed though 🙃
If i wanted to play that, i must quit working on any FPGA related tasks 😛
I can’t think of anything that meets the criteria 😦
Adventures of Little Ralph can be beaten on easy mode in about 45 minutes. And is actually fun and doesnt require a ton of skill. It's 2D, though.
Personally I mess around with the psx2x core on the daily
not a big fan of 2D platformers...will probably stay with some racing game then and just drive 3-4 courses
Ridge Racers always fun
NFS III or road rash on the psx2x core !
Motorhead or Colin McRae 2.0 then, easy 🙂
That ridge racer remaster where they made it 60fps is fun
over the last year i completed GT1+2, Colin 2.0, CTR and MotorToon. Maybe i try RR4 next
RR4 is a great game for sure
I would recommend Wipeout 2097 as well, it requires practice/skill though
Nothing like some Soundgarden from the MiSTer on a Sunday
Is 2097 also XL?
yeah, i think its called XL in the US
I had that and a neGcon and those were the best days of my life
Firestarter as a soundtrack and Papue New Guinea were lit back then
Waking up and having to pick between Wipeout XL, SOTN, FFVII and Tekken 3.

broken sword / broken sword2?
If we made the PSX core dev and the N64 core dev fight, I wonder who would win?
Tail Concerto is easy/breezy and less than 5 hours. It’s a cute game for kids too.
Roll Away (Kula World in EU) is a fun relaxing puzzler
If you want something spooky then Echo Night is an interesting game. Laid back beyond the subject matter and less than 5 hours.
Does active composite adapters work on the psx core? Right now it looks all greyscale kinda like if you were to connect only the green from a component cable.
Check the ycconsole cores. You have to enable them in update_all
It’s one of the few that hasn’t yet had it integrated into the official release
But it works fine
Great games! Unfortunatly i completed them long ago on PC. The first game probably 5 times already in the last 20 years. Broken sword 2 on Ao486 🙂
I thought yc was already integrated in later mister updates on around feb 23
The cores have to be recompiled with the main MiSTer framework to take advantage of it.
So there's still some stragglers.
ah. I tohught it would just be a universal setting. Laughs in digital i/o with digital to analog downscaler
well it is a universal setting but cores have to update to accept the setting if that makes sense lol
🤭
No puff puff ?
Different girl
This game amazes me. The other time I was surprised by a NPC who called me a son of a bitch lol
Wonder what’s the PG rating of DQVII on the PSX? 🤔
This one lol
And yeah, 90h of game play and still on CD 1 😔
Good god!!
Was gonna start a playthrough but I don’t wanna die of old age before I complete the game..
Maybe cd 2 is much shorter ?
Hopefully CD2 is just a “making of” clips collection 😅
it could always be like Xenogears where CD2 is just a book because the money ran out
Some extra discs are just omake yeah
play DQ7 on 3DS instead if you can
@serene nebula do you own maestromusic controller?
Nope! Never heard of it until you just mentioned it.
Well I guess now you will
Aww, wanted to know if the music sheets are needed
But review says it only detects up and down movement
Might as well play wii music
I mean i did buy the vpick
so I'll be air guitaring like an idiot soon
I really wish someone bought the tambourine controller
I remember being there for the Wii Music announcement at Nintendo’s E3 press conference. I still remember very distinctly thinking Miyamoto jumped the shark and I’m a huge fan.
If it had actual composing stuff, i would have loved it
Reminds, i should try out that ps1 composing software from yamaha for ps1
Remember buying a bootleg with one of the less popular ddrs with it
@hot marsh did pop n music ever come out for ps1?
Awesome!
Although i bought a parapara paradise controller
Spent working hours at home setting up the template
You're not missing much
It's cute if you know the choreo
back when bemani was a lot more experimental
Para basically comes with a separate vcd
If the line was too long on DDR
I played it in the arcade, I can’t imagine the home port being good enough
Then you memorize tge dance and repeat it on arcades or game
It's awful. Para para is closest via kinect
Through dance evolution
nowadays there's Dance Rush Stardom
though it's more about foot work than hand work
And yes i memorized this choreo
Yeah dance rush is a step back in terms of tracking and dancing
But yeah more focus on fun
Just like DDR, there's never a line for Dance Rush
everyone plays Mai Mai now
at the arcade near me I frequent, there's an old dude who shows up and plays DDR songs on the most basic step charts but does his own dance with them
seems like he's having fun
Oh yeah that is in my country too
Too bad steel pads arent common anymore
Still have my shitty dual ddr pad setup
But i dont like ddr on ps1, even on mister
I use dancemania
It's too strict and my fave songs are all over the place
tbh DDR was kinda annoying until like Max, I think, when we finally got mods
imagine playing on 1x all the time, madness
I dropped out on the ps2 era mostly
On og ps1, i was too worried about the dance pad moving away
That like 5 step songs were impossible to get As
Like you know ddr is dead if mario jumped on it
DDR is still clinging to life
the new A series machines and stuff have all new stuff and all old stuff
Not enough to be in my country though
Havent seen ddr in 10 years in the local arcade
They even shifted to dance central at some point
Via 360
Anyway got to sleep.
Robert only made the N64 to keep people from asking for fixes on FMV games
are there FMV games with issues?
I didn't notice, but I don't think anyone reported anything
i only know of the minor fmv issues (all intros) in github
Yes, other than what's on github I haven't seen anything
Any further thoughts on the PITA that is Virtual Pool 3 and its weird Audio?
Aww, wonder if stolen song or the other one (forgot which one) works since it's an FMV game
and uses the vpick that I bought
@hot marsh I just bought a pop’n music controller lol
Is there a list of PS1 controllers/accessories available? Want to see what cool oddities are available for the system.
I have it! But no strap 😢
coconuts
anyone know if the mat is important for the tambourine
Don’t think so
It’s only USD $6! ||but $67 shipping 😭||
that sneaky shipping price though
well on the plus side, tax won't get you much
Like if I were to buy it, it would be like $90 due to shipping from US to my country
and I'll probably cheap out and ship it by sea
But I'll probably stop with the controllers I got
maybe Pop n music at most
Yeah, excited to give that a shot.
i mean, if you like it, there's a lot of pop n music games on ps1 and 2
basically it's the equivalent of me having multiple taiko drums
because it has like:
12 ps2 games, 5 wii games, 3 wii u games, 3 switch games, 1 ps4 game, 3 ds games (probably more), 1 vita game (i think), 3 3ds games
So many!
yeah i didn't initially list the handheld ones
wow check out this controller
yeah that's why it's my guess it's the guitar hero of Japan
thank gawd for kinect
removing stuff like those sensors
although Switch has a game like Martial Beat 2
martial beat isn't prized too crazy
although I don't think I'd use it to replace any of my cardio stuff
also wtf, there are only 13 songs
Finally got around to making a listing to the memory card add-ons for the PSX SNAC adapters. I realize I like building them a whole lot more than writing copy for them.
Anyway, if anybody has a SNAC adapter than doesn't have this addon, now you can use memory cards too!
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1449955912
Also, it works with PocketStation!
Also there's a 3d printed shell for the whole assembly on my Thingiverse
I am so excited for the N64 core I’m contemplating playing Space Station Silicon Valley for the PS1.
Any impressions from people here who’ve played it?
I haven't played it but it looks interesting from the video I watched on it
DMA design the company that made that game is now known as Rockstar North.
@devout nacelle it’s an awesome game, on the N64
I heard the PS1 version suffers from a lot of performance issues.
Maybe the psx2x core can alleviate some of those issues ..
The video mentioned the N64 version had issues with the expansion pack. You gotta take it out to play it or it freezes at the beginning.
I think it's literally the only game not compatible with the Expansion Pak.
Like for some reason any time it tries to render the microchip you control, it just freezes.
There is a hack that fixes that and the 1 trophy you can't pick up.
GTA needs a good game hack..
Try it on the psx2x core
That won't make it a good game .lol
But it will make it 30fps
Maybe even more
Well at least it’ll keep a steady 30
Not easy finding a disk image of space station silicon valley for ps1
Knowing used a different name on PS1 would have helped..lol
tearing everywhere
evo's space adventure
Yeah I figured that out
So uhhhh, I play this game just fine with an expansion pack.
I don’t know why or how
somehow i've completely missed the fact space station sillicon valley got released on PS1.. always thought it was an n64 exclusive lol
PAL-only which might be why you didn’t know
👀 PAL here. maybe it's just a bit of an obscure sleeper release
called Evo's Space Adventures funnily enough
Shame on me for assuming, my bad
hehe
i have played a tiny bit of the 64 one but never got too deep. early part of the game was fairly standard but can imagine it picking up later on
kinda fun seeing some shared ideas from early GTA games but in a completely different context
They do a good job of varying up the scenarios and puzzles, really clever
the whole thing of going in and out of animals like they're cars on the street almost LOL
It’s funny that both Space Station Silicon Valley and Body Harvest were foundational games for Grand Theft Auto 3
oh yeah Body Harvest is one i wanna have another look at one day.. and Blast Corps lol
im pretty sure i completely forgot Body Harvest even exist and just conflated it with Blast Corps
I remember enjoying Blast Corps back in the day?
Apparently the first release of Silicon Valley doesn’t work with the expansion pack but they patched it out in a cart revision
blast corps seems decent yeah
that'll explain it :D
when i got the everdrive 64 and had the entire library to casually browse thru.. the one game that really stood out to me (that i missed as a kid... ) Pilotwings 64 is really good!!!
any time i feel like booting into a fun casual game pilotwings is super decent
i loved the SNES pilotwings and i think sort of snubbed the n64 version because i thought it looked kinda ugly or something lol
What’s the controller trigger to turn light gun mode on? Since the core seems to periodically set the menu button to be light gun mode toggle on the dualsense after toggling between analog and digital mode by pressing the touch pad
sorry i don't get that. Can you describe exactly what i have to do to reproduce?
i'm not even sure what lightgun mode is...crosshair overlay? controller selection in OSD?
I’m not even sure what it’s trying to do. Maybe simulate a light gun? But totally disables menu button combo (have to access osd through io board)
I’ll try and figure out exact steps to replicate though
Replicate on dualsense:
Start up ridge racer R4
Pad 1 is in DualShock mode
Press touch pad twice to toggle analog, back to digital
Press button set as home button (I’ve tried both mute and ps button), menu button will now toggle light gun mode (light gun mode is on -off)
Doesn’t have to be R4, I was just playing that earlier and seemed to be pretty consistent for changing home button behavior
Ooh, wish you released this earlier. I ended up buying a PS1 controller port and will be soldering it to the SNAC
what do you mean with "button set as home button"? Have you mapped the pad in mister main and also in the core? I have mapped all buttons myself on my dualsense and don't get lightgun mode
i've had this too, but super randomly
i think it can happen in any lightgun capable core
I meant “button mapped to home” as button which is set to bring up osd from main. And I have the main controller buttons mapped, but not savestate, fastforward, pause or toggle DualShock
are you using the playstation button as home?
did mute do it too?
Yeah, both were doing it periodically. Just remapped a few times and a bit less consistent now
Double checked and dual sense is fully up to date (ps5 firmware checker)
see it you can get it to happen on snes core?
Snes core I usually can’t replicate. But I’ll try to do that tomorrow
Is there a short cut for light gun mode?
Kind of like rapid fire that’s accidentally getting triggered 🤔
thats the weird thing, i'm not even sure what lightgun mode its referring to there tbh
there's a lightgun calibration menu you can open with f10
oh, maybe its a mouse thing, when you touch the touchpad it can act like a mouse
thats probably whats getting set to lightgun mode
@tropic stratus nice racer recommendation if you've not seen it, Rally De Africa/Rally De Europe
JPN only but most of the menu text etc in english
plays a lot like sega rally
i will try it 🙂
possibly you can more reliably reproduce that bug if you like, make sure you actually swipe the touchpad a bit
dont just push it
maybe if there's a way for a toggle to be implemented similar to the autofire toggle that recently-ish got added?
thing is i think its harmless?
as soon as you press a controller button it'll go back to controller mode and stop doing it?
ahh i see
I played a lot of time in these games, but still, nothing beats Sega Rally 😉
when a bug entry makes you happy 🙂
"Okay, looks like the flickering is normal on a real PSOne, it even changes the level of flickering when I plug in a 2nd controller, so the MiSTer PSX core is mimicking the behavior with incredible accuracy, so false alarm."
yes , such bugs are cool 😄
i mean, it could easily have been a real bug, who knows that. But now it payed off that even the emulated pad timing was adjusted to be relativly close to the original
About the light gun mode thing: this happens to me whenever I press menu while having my finger on the TouchPad. At first I was confused too but now I just make sure to keep my finger off the TouchPad when pressing home.
I thought it was intentional haha
Is there an advantage to keeping separate memory card files for each game?
You’ll never run out of space and have to manage that
Also that’s the default option so that’s one less thing to configure
Ah that makes sense, thanks 🙂
I had the auto mount off for a specific purpose and I was just wondering if I should bother setting it back on
But I can see it becoming a mess juggling them around with it off
If you like having one memory card there’s nothing wrong with it. Feels more authentic too.
Just don’t save a game in Diablo lol
There a few games that look for saves from other games (eg mantis in mgs commenting on other Konami games), otherwise auto mount is just easier 🙂
Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks guys!
If anyone was curious, there’s the full lineup
Yeah I definitely recommend keeping auto mount on, and if you do run across a game that has one of these features you just load both cards in the bios and copy the relevant save over
Imma nitpick, this isn't quite full
It’s missing all the rhythm games
if you are for some reason playing SMT If..., there's a whole list of games you can gain certain boosts from if you have their save data
https://megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_if...#PlayStation_Version
Rhythm games aren’t games, they’re torture devices
rhythm games are the pinnacle of gaming, distilled to its essence
I told you I had a bunch of parts and was willing to work with you on your custom project.
I hope you keep posting about this project of yours, very interested to see where you go with it.
beat my mania
I didn’t know about the rhythm games, that’s cool. Is there a list handy?
Maybe that image was just for US released games?
IIRC there's some beatmania with append discs
and save data goes between
I'd have to go look
Oh that’s cool
Ah no worries. Appreciate it though.
so that list is sorta for US games. "US" doesn't account for some of the games MGS will read (some of those only J/A versions will only read J saves and have some specific region'd games) and also only one of the Persona 2s got localized
I'm sure there's more I don't know about, but somehow I guess I've gone an encountered some of the weirder ones
SMT If... had me booting up games I hadn't heard of just to get save data for the boost in SMT If...
Weird
gotta play 峠MAX 最速ドリフトマスター just for that Ag +5
it's literally just me soldering 10 wires to the back of the ps1 port.
have you played any VR rhythm games? i'm obsessed with pistol whip and synthriders lately
beat saber is great
when I had some VR stuff I played a lot of beatsaber
nowadays no VR, but good access to MaiMai and Chunithm so I think I made out okay
yeah really looking forward to beatsaber coming to psvr2
You have to include lemmings in that list
Maybe? I just mentioned those two because game mechanics and code directly led to GTA3.
Ahh ok , I feel lemmings embodies the open world aspect of letting the player decide how to go about finishing the level .. might be mistaken but it may be the first example of a “sand box” style game
Yeah, the success and design of Lemmings is what made that studio. Every project of theirs owes thanks to Lemmings.
Put em on the map so to speak
