I want to take coding up as a hobby that can maybe turn into something greater, but I have no clue where to start, what programs are good to use, etc. Any suggestions?

Hi Elysia! I appreciate your enthusiasm about learning to code! However, this forum is specifically for help with coding problems you're actively working on (like debugging errors, understanding specific concepts, etc.).

For getting started with programming, I'd recommend:

  • General learning: Try communities like r/learnprogramming or general tech forums
  • Specific language help: Once you pick a language and start coding, come back here with specific questions!

If you have a concrete coding problem or error you're stuck on, we'd love to help! Just make sure to include your code, what you've tried, and what error you're seeing.

Countless people have asked me "How do I get started with learning how to code?", so I decided to write up a comprehensive guide on how to do just that. I go through how to teach yourself to code completely for free when you don't know what you want to use code for or you don't know where to start.
