Most times (generally when you throw the ball instead of carrying it into the goalpost) it does not count it as a goal.
Got no clip but it happens very often

Players must grasp the ball and cross the line together for it to be considered a goal. If only the ball crosses the line without anyone grabbing it, it will not be counted as a goal.

It just struck me as a very strange and non-obvious fact about picking up the ball. And that's because of the experience that the game gave us.
And to be honest, the mode where you had to lift something on the goal was not on the playtests

It kinda goes in line with the rules of football. A player needs to have possession of it in the end zone for it to be a TD. And if the ball was all that needed to be there, it could just be thrown in long-distance
