Well you have to decide what your risk appetite is. Like how much are you willing to lose on a trade if it does not go in your favour.

A general rule I've noticed in the trading community is that never risk more than 2% of your capital per trade.

So depending on your capital you set your stop loss acoording to that. On gold my stop loss is usually 200 points away from my entry

and if the trade moves in my favour then I move my stop loss to break even and when it goes far enough I will set the stop loss to trail to keep potential profits.

Sure you can I have seen some traders take massive risks. But for a start I would not risk more than 2%

There is no single best strategy for 1-5m timeframe, every trader is unique and it all depends on what type of trader you are. You could be a intraday trader or a scalper, so each trader would have different settings. Its all about finding a strategy what works for you and what doesn't through trial and error along with backtesting to see how it preformed over previous price action

it is all about risk to reward

to say 17% DD is good you have to compare it to how much you are risking for it

if you get 20% DD but have 100+% return on a long period of time that's good i think

but in general anything below 20% is good if you got good returns

Lets imagine this extreme scenario.
If my account had $5million dollars, and this was just play money that I dont care, because I am $8 billion net worth, then 17% DD is nothing, I dont care about, and I am willing to take on.
But if my account only has $1,000, and I am struggling to pay rent next month, and I am trying to trade to pay my bills, then maybe this 17% DD is something I better not take on.

I dont trade to pay bills cuz specially if you are learning and at the start of your journey you will lose more than you make

it is better to focus on having a stable source of income and use trading as a side until you make it

it is recommended to have atleast a year or two of savings in the bank so you dont worry about that

but if you dont have savings at all i definetly would not be trading at all

This is one of the reasons, why forex can be great.
If you wanted to trade live, instead of demo paper account, you can, without risking your life savings.
In forex, we are able to trade virtually any position size.
Our positions are traded in lots, which 1 lot equals 100,000 units.
In most brokers, we can decide how many units we can trade.
So instead of trading a full lot or 100,000 units to go for a 10 pip TP for average of $100, maybe you can trade 1,000 units and just make $1, or lose $025-$0.50

What I understand is that in the trading list, the winning trades are calculated and the losing ones are deducted from them. I think this is mdd.

There are no concrete rules or patterns as price action can change anytime, you ust have to optimize your strategy to tip the odds in your favor.

The gold price is within an order block on the 30m and 1h timeframe. If it holds, the sellers might be lucky. If it breaks at around 2505-07.5, it has the potential to go up to around 2514 before it might reverse in my opinion. Use SLs always and reduce risk. Just my thoughts tho. But I trend trade the 5m timeframe. You guys seem to have another approach.
