Kinda lost and confused here and hoping for any insight.

I tried a strat that in January Trading 2 hours a day across 3 pairs would have netted 60% win rate and 30% net gain on the account.

But backtesting from October to Decemeber the strat loses over 5% each month.

Strategy is taking the trade when the trend catcher, smart trail and confirmation signal all align and putting your stop loss on the edge of the smart trail with a 1:2 risk reward.

Just wondering how in January it looks so good across 50 trades taken in total to absolutely sucking old man ass between October to December.

Could be a few things: sensitivity/agility figures aren't aligned with the market and it ranges too much, the risk to reward is not appropriate - meaning you could be just missing out on your TP and then it reverses. Have a look at when the trades are taken and see if it is a problem with entries, exits or both.

so from quick observation, January didnt have massive spikes at the beginning and start of the Tokyo session while Oct to Dec had huge spikes in both driections during the Begining of the Tokyo session.

So thats the reason why it sucked ass last year...

Suggestion, don’t force trades at “your” specified times. FX is pretty much 24/5, so we must trade what we see anytime during the 24/5. We trade to what FX gives us at any given hour, not the other way around. I think this is the major hurdle with most of us, myself included, as we can’t stay awake 24/5 to catch the best setups, as it can occur anytime.

If you don’t see the perfect set up during “your” time, then don’t enter. Wait the next day or the next. With your specified time frame, you may get 1 or 2 perfect setups in a week or a month. It’s not the strat that is failing you.

I much rather trade twice a week and gaining even 1% as im still a noob.
My whole point was that something is working in January but totally bombs last 3 months before... my entire question was would anyone have an idea why/how can 1 strategy go from a 30% gain to a minus 15% loss monthly for the 3 months before hand...

Looking at it now again, javs strat worked great in January for those times aswell but 3 months before it sucked too ( to be clear no hate on javs strat )

And looking back on it now before Christmas we had daylight savings, so even though my times were constant then exchange time zone would have been different. Which might cause some difference in the results aswell.

The main difference though is the big spikes up/ down at the strat of Tokyo which caused my trades to get stopped out.
Before Christmas there was massive spikes daily and after Christmas those spikes went way down.

And as mentioned above I'm waiting on 3 confirmation to aline to enter a trade and that's all, so when backtesting all my trades was perfect entries

there are short spikes, long spikes in every asset depending on economic news and sentiment, and the actual asset your trading with the perspective volume and liquidity......you just have the find the right asset for a happy balance.....if you want less spikes, then try minor pairs instead of major pairs, but then you will ask me why the minors are so slow to move or change trends? double edge sword. If you want to fast easy wins, be prepared for the larger spikes.....

remember, minor pairs may be less jumpy, but may move slower, and may have higher spreads, so your SL and TP needs to be further out to compensate for the spreads.

Spreads meaning you are already in the hole once you enter, and how far into the hole is your spread.

If the spread from your broker is 2.0 pips then when you enter, your trade is already -2.0 pips

When there is less individuals at play in the market, that is a perfect time for the institutional moves to come into play. In the start of the year there is more retail traders that the huge institutions are 100% fine with because it allows plenty of orders to be built up. As that is how the market runs, in cycles, it find areas to return and take out (that is used as fuel) before going to the real impulsive direction. Most people that have 200k accounts or half a million account are still retail. Yes in fact, I’m speaking of the ones with Billions or hundreds of millions, the real whales move the market never the smaller accounts that take breaks for the last 3 weeks of the year / first 2 weeks of the year.

And is that OB in confluence of a higher TF OB, and is the 5m price in a premium area, and in a similar premium area as the higher TF?

looks like the current 5m price is in the bottom half of the swing range (premium/discount area) which means you may have shorted when it was already in a discounted area

SO I checked my PAC charts on EU, yes the 5m and 1H are in heavily discounted areas already, this may go further down, of course it could, but odds are, could be chop going up and up? but you could had waited for a better short

To be honest, I do not use a hard set rule on SL or TP, I know this may not look good as there are lots of guidance and training on the internet about proper R:R, and measure your SL according to your TP, and see if the TP is worth the trade/risk to enter, etc etc....thats just too much headache for me really. For me, I cant make price action fit into my trading parameters, PA doesnt care about what my parameters are. So I trade and manage the trade according to what PA is allowing me at that time. If my TP is 20pips and SL is 5pip, what is the difference from 20pip TP and a 40pip SL, if price will reach 20pip TP anyway? To me, it's just doesnt make sense to me really. Why would I let a trade hit my SL parameter when price action showed me before that, the trade is over and to close it out asap? why would I disregard price action? So no, I dont use fancy R:R calculators and proper R:R. I will close out a trade asap or hold onto a trade according to what price action is telling me. I do what price action tells me, because I cannot make price action do what I want it to do.....Hope this makes sense

Higher TF always the safest, but you need a good size account to go through the pull back drawdowns. And you can open a small account to trade a lower TF as the pull backs should be within reason with your small account,, BUT with a lower TF, the odds are, you will slowly give your small account paper cuts, until you bleed to death (acct blown)

I don't have Lux on TradingView, but you can go to PAC settings and change timeframe from "Chart" to Higher like if you are trading in M5 you should select H1
