That would be by using a backtesting window of 500 bars, a sensitivity range of 10/40 and agility range of 20/40, these are what optibot use, but do not limit yourself with that, you can use any settings range and backtest window you want (as long as its not too large)

@indigo cradle - hope you are well. I'm having a realy hard time since the release of the backtesting system to get any kind of meaningfull result compared to the YT Videos. I've now followed above Video click by click and my results are vastly different. Is it expected that the invite script is from user "LuxAlerts1" and not "LuxAlgo" like all the rest and only has 5 likes. Wondering whether I am invited to the actual strategy or am being spoofed by someone.

Secondly any gotchas that I might look for to get something working - Attached images are example of YT vid when loading MATICUSD from Coinbase on 30M (around the 44 second mark in the YT vid) vs when I load it on my side (same inputs). % Profitable and bars are the same but all the other metrics are way off.

I create a new chart, add the backtester from invite scripts, select the symbol from same data source and same timeframe, and output is completly diffrent, thus I have no baseline to start tweaking

@indigo cradle or @feral lava bit of a technical question that may be more advanced than can be answered here. I often build my own indicators and strategies. When doing my own inductors i can make a simple tp/sl with “strategy.opentrades.entry_price()” . I can then generate a value for SL/TP by multiplying that number by 1.xx or 0.xx.
I could then make a variable to reference that is 1 or 0 depending on if price has passed that point.
All that aside….
My question is - that function and logic is usually used in a strategy script and not an indicator. Do you know if the backtester could reference a separate strategy script or can it only reference indicator() scripts? And if it can reference other strategy scripts would the “strategy.opentrades.entry_price()” actually pull from the lux strategy entry prices or would it be locked into its own strategy?

So even if you could reference it as the external source it would look for an entry price of the external strategy and not the lux strategy. Dang. I don’t at this time. I found the indicator on TV itself and so i have just been exploring the setup of it (obviously it doesn’t generate data). I have spent many dozens of hours writing strategies/indicators etc and backtesting them in the past so i am very familiar with the TV backtesting setup. Many of these strategies and images being posted by others are not accurate once you account for some of the TV backtester inherent weaknesses…but a few of them i have seen look proper and accurate. I’ve been working out on paper how exactly i would best write my external indicator source and criteria to be integrated in as i would literally be upgrading for the backtester alone to be able to test lux features combined with my custom indicators…I don’t really mind paying the monthly rate…so just been trying to see if it’s worth truly worth it in my case.

Yeah - absolutely - there were a few i saw that truly were holy crap setups and i couldnt find anything obviously wrong/biased in their screenshots.
Y’all are 100% accurate though that there has never been a faster optimization of strategies. To be able to generate something that has a 2+ PF and 70+ WR in a few clicks is nuts - even with some of the TV known biases. I’ve spent hours doing that by hand before.

4 key criteria i wish people would do

1. never use HA for backtesting. Ever.
2. always include the broker/exchange fee. That alone can turn a winning strategy into a losing one.
3. use the replay feature to test different market conditions. The backtester will test backwards from wherever you drop the replay bar. So find a few months long bull run and test it there. Then find a bearish run, then find that transition between them. It will give you an idea of how it performs in the different market conditions. “Luckily” we have had all three setups in all the markets the last few years so it’s easy to find testing points to drop the replay bar at.
4. backtest with fixed entry amounts. Use like 10,000 initial balance and have a fixed $100 entry. This minimizes many biases because every single entry starts at a level playing field of $100. It removed any bias on what happened on previous trades and every entry and exit are treated equally. So you can really evaluate the strategy itself and turn the money aspect into a control instead of a variable. For instance % equity is the worst. Your backtest may have had one outlier that exploded up or crashed - and that destroyed the rest of the backtest because it skewed things so much. Contracts are a little better but even those are a bit biased. Do you truly buy 5 contracts every single entry? And how exactly do you buy 5 “contracts” of BTC with 1000 initial balance? Do you truly have that 1mil you said your initial was? Etc etc. Fixed entry for backtesting $100 bucks fixed entry for nice simple number. If the strategy works with fixe entries then how you do the exact money aspect in real trading doesn’t matter to the strategy because you know at the end of the day the strategy works…and proper money management is never the job of the strategy itself but the one trading.

If we set a Sell Condition Filter in the Backtesting System, and we are long on a position, does the sell signal close it, or does it also reverse the position into a short?

I’m not being rude when i say this - but set it and look at your chart or the “trades” tab of the strategy tester. Does it open a short position every time a long closes or does it show the long exiting and then a span of time until the next trade? That should give you your answer.
I don’t have the backtester or i would tell you the answer.

I think i saw someone saying if you set a sell condition to something impossible (like price crossing zero) it would never enter a short and only do longs. So that many imply buy and sell are separate entry conditions for longs and shorts and not just flip flop back and forth

For instance - most people don’t do shorts in crypto long term and only some bots will do crypto shorts. So if i was backtesting crypto i would only want to buy in on longs and pull everything out when it’s not a long condition. So “disabling shorts” would be crucial in the backtesting
