#High Ping ISSUE in South America
47 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
is it putting you on a bad server when there is a better server around? like it's completely ignoring the Regional Preferences you choose?
if yes, i think a lot of other regions are experiencing this problem.
the problem has been present since the beta stages, and despite numerous complaints and feedback from players, it still hasn't been fixed
we are looking into it, we may have a solution in the next few minutes, standby
as far as i can tell, the Santiago (and also Buenos aires) server doesnt show up in the server list, so i can't deselect it from regional preferences. I have very low ping to the Santiago server but it still works considerably worse than other servers where i have higher ping
@spiral skiff @boreal vapor Can you try again please? we changed something which will hopefully help resolve this.
i will try now
may take a few try to get on the new server as the old one are scaling down.
My issue is with the Tel Aviv server. It puts me there despite Frankfurt, Milan, and Paris having significantly less ping than Tel Aviv.
Hopefully your change will fix that issue too
Now I will try, thx
@spiral skiff we changed things in south america. let's try to fix this and we can look at your regions.
@spiral skiff I'll be honest, tel aviv has been terrible with every provider for the last 2 weeks. we suspect the political situation may have something to do with it.
Hopefully that works so that EU/Middle east issue gets fixed soon also
Yeah, im not in a place to say this, but i suggest removing it (or add a choice to block it) since i don't think the majority are happy with it.
In theory, it might provide better connectivity with EU and Middle east together, since Tel Aviv is kinda close to EU and it's still in the Middle east.
But from my experience, Both Middle Eastern and EU players are struggling with that server since both have their ping around 100ms in that server.
I am from Saudi, and when i want to play with EU players, I prefer connecting to Frankfurt since my ping there is ~75ms which is SUPER playable. But my ping in Tel Aviv is 110ms, which is weird since Tel Aviv is closer.. but whatever
It's almost impossible to avoid connecting to Tel Aviv when i queue. Even when i found its IP and i blocked it through Windows Firewall. The only thing that did is prevent me from joining games all together.
Sorry for the rant, but i finally found someone who is willing to help with this issue that has been bothering us since the betas
no worries, I'll do my best to help. I'm investigating, standby. Tel aviv location is hosted by google btw.
btw, i noticed that Tel Aviv's ping now is 30-40ms less than what we had in the betas/demo
it was 150ms before, and now it's 110ms (Still not good, but a good step forward).
Wanted to let you know incase it's good to know that there was an improvement in your updates.
@boreal vapor any update on this one?
@spiral skiff we are still looking for you. Issue seems to be that your traffic needs to go to europe before coming back to tel aviv. very odd to have such a physically short connection takes so much time.
Now it works very smoothly, the only problem that remains is that the Santiago server does not appear in the list.
I can play on the server and it works great but it doesn't appear in the list of servers
but that's a minor problem
the important thing is that it works well
Thx for the help
awesome
Yeah, it’s definitely strange.
But, the main issue isn’t just the high ping itself, but the lack of an option to avoid connecting to Tel Aviv. Even if the Tel Aviv server’s ping improves, I would still sometimes prefer connecting to Frankfurt/Milan/Paris for matches with EU players. Otherwise, if I’m on Tel Aviv, I’ll end up with EU opponents who aren’t happy with their own 90ms ping on that server.
allowing players to select locations is not something I can influence unfortunately. but the devs are reading this and I'm sure they're looking into it.
Im hopeful
as you should
To be honest, if there was a way to lower Tel Aviv's ping on both sides, it would be perfect.
~50ms on both sides (EU/Middle East) is heaven. Middle eastern and EU players never had a fair chance at competing online like this
we'll keep monitoring tel aviv datacenter until tomorrow and will see how it goes for the moment. if you know how to run a traceroute from you to the server you're connecting, you would most likely see what the issue is (i.e. your internet would go up all the way to UK and back to israel for example)
I will do that
It's something i've done in my CS uni years
I really really really appreciate the help, you're a life saver
aint no way it's going to USA instead of UK
something doesn't add up.
My ping with usa is already more than 130+ms or even much higher.
The resulting latency can't be 102ms
it's Open Visual Trace Route
A tool suggested by someone in the dev team (i think) back in June's beta
us base maybe?
more info if needed
lemme do it on the command line and see if anything is different
feel free to dm me if you don't want to post your ip here
