#Do I need to cut the bowden tube at the hotend?

If you look at the video at this timestamp, the bowden tube has been cut inside the hotend, essentially separating it from the bowden tube that is connected to the extruder.
Why does it need to be cut like this? When I replaced my extruder, I was unaware that this was required, and I had a bit of stringing on my prints.

Additionally, what washer is used in that video? Can I buy a rubber washer like that commercially if I don't want a PLA washer that might reach glass temperature in the heatsink?

I'm not sure, but I think the seperate ptfe tube is so that you don't have to replace the entire thing. As for the washer, I have no idea about that, sry

I don't really mind the added inconvenience of reseating the entire bowden tube when it needs to be replaced, I just want to get a somewhat decent print quality for now
