Retraction and combing sometimes

velvet sundial
#

i know part of the problem is that i just moved it back to college

#

so a few things may have gotten jostled

#

the things is, i've changed nothing in my printing profiles from when i was home so why would retraction and combing do thius when it does fine on other prints

velvet sundial
#

what can i do to fix it?

velvet sundial
#

what settings can i change to remedy the issue

velvet sundial
#

it might not be retraction or combing issues

#

both images posted are front views

#

the back of the print is smooth, unlike the images shown

velvet sundial
#

i changed retraction distance to 7.5mm and its better but not fully smooth like i expect

hasty monolith
#

7.5 is rather too much try 4.5 mm

velvet sundial
#

it was already at 5mm and doing the above

#

if it helps, my temp is 210C, bed is 60C and filament is PLA

hasty monolith
#

Many printer stock Profiles are too higj

#

Check also if you have combing off

velvet sundial
#

its set to "not in skin"

velvet sundial
hasty monolith
#

off id say you would have to preview the toolpath on a already sliced gcode to check if it was one

velvet sundial
#

i did check the combing and retraction settings before the current print and thats when i changed retraction to 7.5mm and saw that combing was set to not in skin

#

i have just changed combing to off and retraction to 4.5mm, i'll post the results in a day or so when its done'

hasty monolith
#

Yay

velvet sundial
#

tgis image is of the print done at 4.5mm and no combing

Id say bettee but i think you have z binding and maybe too low belt tension

velvet sundial
#

What is z binding, and thats impossible its nearly maxed out

hasty monolith
#

z binding is if the z axis doesnt move as much as it should due either a tillted axis or something else

velvet sundial
#

i think it might be the z axis rod, where is the best place to order it from?

hasty monolith
#

maybe take a picture first including the motor mount also what layerheigt are you priinting at?

velvet sundial
#

.15mm

#

to be fair, i did accidentally grab the rod and squeeze it closer to the frame while transporting it

hasty monolith
#

you can remove it and roll it on a flat surface that should show if its bend

velvet sundial
#

its not bent or anything so its not the rod

hasty monolith
#

hmm maybe its just the layerheigt does it work at .2?

velvet sundial
#

its not the layer height, it printed fine at .15 and .06 before i moved back

hasty monolith
#

okay since you moved the printer check all screws etc

velvet sundial
# velvet sundial

i didn't even do anything to the settings between this one and the current one i am doing right now, yet nothing is going wrong so far

#

no layer lines are visible

#

then again all thats on the outside so far is just support and its just 10%

Check if your extruder assembly is loose

velvet sundial
#

what qaulifies as loose

daring sapphire
#

There should be next to no movement when you wiggle it

velvet sundial
#

i mean, it does jiggle back and forth a little

#

but its been like that since i got the printer

daring sapphire
#

I would try to tighten everything to make sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsEdU8ZtI6U If that doesn't work take off the fan cover and make sure the assembly is screwed in tightly on the mounting plate

Hi guys,

We have seen very frequently users showing carriages from their 3D printers with lots of play and ask for help on how to fix it.
In this video, we will explain in detail what are eccentric nuts, how you can fix the wobbling, and how to correctly adjust the wheels of your carriages.
This procedure works for...

ill try it first thing in the morning, thank you

So, somethong else thats happening, when a piece of a print has a small starting surfaca area, it tends to pull off the plate mid print

daring sapphire
#

Make sure the bed is level and the nozzle is close enough to the build plate, also try slowing down the inital layer speed. If you're printing something that doesn't have a lot of surface area connecting with the build plate use a raft

velvet sundial
#

bed is leveled, using a raft

hasty monolith
#

Depends on the sice. On very small areas not even a raft will help. Also make sure your bed stays at the same temp

velvet sundial
#

prints look nearly perfect right now, no issues and I still have done nothing

could anyone recommend a good enclosure for the neptune 3?
