From what I saw. The pci lane and m.2 are separate

you can do two (PCIE 5) NVMEs direct from the CPU without eating lanes by default. Chipset link gets you a third NVME. THe boards can then eat lanes to do a 4th nvme, or eat bandwidth off a secondary chipset

if memory serves me, there's ~24 lanes, you're guaranteed 16 for the top PCIE slot, part of the reason you want a x670e board, I t hink x870e can give yah more

that's pretty much what I did on my x670e strix board. I had the main OS nvme at the top m.2, then 2 other nvmes. I think one of my m.2 slots would only take sata if a certain pcie slot was used
