Regrettably, just the supply issue prevents any meaningful way to dissuade this opinion. Even if you cant get it now, there will inevitably be stock at some point. It might take a while, and it might cost more, but it will eventually hit shelves in a more regular cadence.

Don't feel too down. You're fighting a sea of gamers in a rushed launch with even the manufacturers taken off guard by it.

It’s good, a nice upgrade. But it’s far from imperative.

I don't mean to sound rude, but this is a useless argument to have. If you have a 4090, you're still gaming in a class all your own. It wreaks of ego when someone says the 5090 isn't much of an upgrade from their current 4090, if they have one that is. Just adds fuel to a useless fire.

There is also the argument that the expectations for generation to generation improvements to be monumental every time is also a narrow take on it.

You can't wholly expect Nvidia to make 50% or more improvements to every single generation like people have expected since the 900 series. Eventually, physics will have something to say about that kind of improvement, and, at 4nm and less, we're nearing that limit very fast.

On the topic of resolution, how high do we really need the PPI to be on a 35" or less monitor? 4K already seems almost overkill for a small form screen. I understand 4K and 8K if you're gaming on an 80" TV. Eventually, clarity will have diminishing returns. I wonder what that day will look like... 🤔

I'm wondering what is Asus thinking when designing the product.
Remember, trio is a mid-tier model and Astral is a flagship model.

Performance:
Astral has slightly higher OC and higher TDP (600 vs 575) so +2% in the 3D mark.
(I don't know why but Astral performed worse in MHWild benchmark than trio)
Temporature:
Astral is 6-8 c cooloer than Trio for GPU temp, but 2-4 c hotter than Trio for Mem Temp
Noise:
I don't have a standardized tool to test (my home is noisy), but RPM is almost the same in various testing. But Astral has 4 fans so slightly louder (purely by feeling)
Both has slight coil whine, but Astral is definitely worse than Trio.
Trio's coil whine is nearly not noticeable if I close the case panel.

Yeah I bought a 1200 for it to be safe, before specs were announced. Got the power pack and figured I'd just use it and have an easier time selling the 1200 since it's a more reasonable size

NZXT wasn't too terrible, but if windows tried to install the AMD driver for the integrated graphics on the newer zen4 chips it would freeze windows shortly after boot 😄 so I had to disable it in the BIOS. I'm deep into the corsair icue link system now, that really made the build easy, but I had to buy extra link cables 😐

Devil's Advocate here... less stock doesn't really make more money for the AIBs or NVIDIA, they would make more money on selling more inventory.
AIBs have somewhere around 5% margin, so they're not exactly getting super rich off of us (though I do wonder if some of that ASUS stuff has more room).
