My GE75 Raider cpu is overheating to 72C-78C while just on chrome. When I open games, it overheats to 85C and sometimes even 97C on high graphics quality. The only way I even got this to 72C is by putting my laptop on extreme performance. If not, being on chrome probably would have made my cpu reach 85C. I've been using this for around 3 years and haven't had a problem like this.

Have you ever cleaned your fans or changed thermal paste on your laptop?
No, was thinking of doing that but I'm scared to because my hinges broke and I don't want to open up the computer and possibly damage the screen more in the process. I wasn't thinking of changing the thermal paste though.
Opening back side of your laptop should not damage screen hinges
Also - when cleaning fans on laptops you usually have to take off the whole cooling system so changing thermal paste would be advised anyways
I've also heard that cpu overheating can also be caused by overusing your laptop--is that true?
Depends on what do you mean by overusing but it kinda shouldn't be the reason
I'm just on chrome doing work for 8-10 hours
However obviously if you are going to load all... 6 or 8 cores of your CPU it is going to produce much more heat compared to just browsing like you mentioned
This should not really be that big of a problem unless you have animals as their fur can easily get sucked in the cooling system by fans. Also i think fans themselves can kinda wear out depending on how much they are used and at which RPM
So obviously if you are going to use your fans on cooler boost mode all the time they won't be happy after some time
You can check videos on how to disassemble your laptop to confirm your actions and you will also see that hinges are relatively far from anything that you would need to do
Something that i like about MSI laptops - it is relatively easy to upgrade/change RAM, SSD or to clean your Cooling system
