Hi, I'm using a 4090 with windows 11 pro. Before everything was fine until now that windows decided to go nah I don't like to overwork my self and grayed out my 4th display. I'm trying option like extended desktop to this display or duplicate on this display but nothing worked. If I'm using nvidia control panel to turn the 4th monitor on, the other one has to go instead so now I'm stuck with 3 moitor instead of 4 like I used to.

Are all four monitors plugged into the GPU or is one plugged into the motherboard?
What are the resolutions and refresh rates of all four monitors?
You can try turning down either the resolution and/or refresh rate of some of the monitors.
All four display is connected to gpu
Main monitor is 2k 360hz
Second is fhd 360hz
Third is fhd 165hz
Fourth is fhd 144hz
I had try turning down the refresh rate but doesn't work
Turning them down to what?
Okay, try this just to see if it fixes it, make everything 1920x1080p @ 144hz.
Nope doesn't work
You go to that gray monitor now and hit extend it just swaps it with another monitor?
No it just doesn't do anything
It swap monitor when I use nvidia control panel
I still want to rule out a bandwidth limit. Make everything 60hz, and turn down that 1440p monitor to 1080p.
Ok
Did what you said when I chose extend desktop to this display it ask me to revert or save change, chose save change still grayed out
Does the grayed monitor show that the extend option is selected or does it say disconnected?
It said disconnected
Does the NVIDIA panel have that monitor check marked, or can you check it?
If I check marked it one of the other automatic unmarked
Did you try after turning the refresh rates and resolutions down?
Yes, all fhd and 60hz
And it still swaps them after that?
Yes
I know it is not the same but with my work laptop I could only have three external displays and the laptop screen open if I turned my 1440p monitor to 1080p, and the laptop screen under that resolution.
It just weird that it work before with max setting on all monitor and now decided to quit
Yeah, that is weird, and I was having you turn everything down to see if maybe the update with Windows created an artificial limit. The only real thing you could try is to take it down even further to 30hz.
You wouldn’t want to run it at those speeds but to see if windows wakes up.
The lowest I can do on all monitor is 60hz
You can also try manually unplugging and reconnecting the DP or HDMI cable of the disconnected monitor and see what windows does.
Still doesn't do anything, I really don't wanna reinstall the whole windows
have you tried reinstalling the nvidia graphics driver?
Drop them all to 60hz
Yes I have try a clean install but not quite the same as delete the driver completely
Yes I have tried that
Are you going to try DDU then reinstall the driver?
I wonder if a recent windows update broke something. Guess you could try uninstalling the latest update(s) before reinstalling the windows
ok I'm trying this later
@trim snow This was going to be my next suggestion. I would see if you have a restore point saved right before the last update.
Unfortunately ddu didn't help
See if you have a restore point saved before seeing this issue as Hello mentioned. Try remembering if you installed something around the time of this issue... or changed a setting.
What if I don't have a restore point
Might just have to reinstall the whole windows now
If you don't see a list of restore points, then system restore was not enabled.
If you can't recall what changed between when the 4th display was working properly to when it wasn't, then reinstalling Windows is an option.
Before reinstalling... if you haven't done this already, you should double check your cables. Reset monitor settings to default settings... worth a try.
You could try SFC /scannow and DISM
SFC command will scan for corrupted system files.
I just reinstall windows by now but it stuck on update are underway pleas keep your computer on for like an 1hr now is it normal because usually it not taking this long
I use the media creation tool to create a bootable USB flash for Windows... then reinstall Windows that way.
I don't use the Reset this PC option in Windows Recovery. Since I backup all my important data regularly, I'm not worried about doing a clean install, wiping clean my boot drive when needed.
It could be that there are many updates that need to be installed.
Nvm I got the windows fresh installed but the problem still exists I now trying to use igpu and gpu as the same time like I used to but the igpu doesn't work
I got the z790 max and the manual said that I need to connect gpu to mobo with the mini dp come with it then connect the other mini dp to monitor
Do as said but nothing came up
