Hi. I have a GX70 destroyer. So about two years ago it updated drivers and stopped detecting the dedicated gpu, which is an AMD HD8970. I reinstalled the specific driver mutiple times before using the amd provided driver cleaning utility. I then reinstalled the driver, which didnt work. I rolled back to the version that previously worked, which was a 2015 version of the driver. However windows didnt like it and displayed an atikmdag.sys bsod. I then reinstalled the most recent drivers from the msi site, I tried to do the windows 8.1 drivers as well but they were not compatable. Neither of the windows 10 2022 drivers or the 2020 driver worked, and I do not belive my gpu is dead because the 2015 driver worked breifly. I had to reinstall windows after installing the 2015 driver because it stopped booting after the second bsod. Any advice?

With all those versions of the drivers being installed it is possible it is causing a conflict. The provided driver cleaning utility might remove some files, but it might not clean out the registry. One thing I would recommend is to install DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). It is a dedicated piece of software that will clear out everything related to drivers, and let you start over completely fresh. Here is a video of the how to:

This video may not match the exact issue that you are having, but the DDU process would be the same. It is up to you if you want to change the windows setting that will prevent the automatic installation of the AMD driver that may be several versions old.
Did use ddu once however the driver installation failed partway through
reinstalled c++ because it was a potential issue
and did the ddu again incase it partially installed something
hmm the basic display adaptor is now malfunctioning and none of the driver software is downloading
what are the chances it is a hardware issue
It is possible that the GPU is just at the end of its life because it was made in 2013. How old are the drives you are installing the drivers are on?
Probably could try switching to a newer disk drive
the os hdd is fine according to its SMART
should still back it up if I get the chance to upgrade
nvm its definetly the hdd
aight
downgraded to windows 8.1 because the gpu compatability issue is an apu compatability issue according to some sources
and was the original operating system
switching to windows 8.1 seems to have resolved all of the issues
Excellent, that is not something that I would have thought of to try. Be careful because 8.1 is at the end of life for support. https://www.systemtek.co.uk/2023/01/windows-8-1-support-ended-on-january-10th-2023-time-to-upgrade/
yeah will keep that in mind
yeah it works
