An M1 with this XM291 120mm "equipped".

It is often mislabeled as the "L55 M256E1", but the L55 barrel thst was imported from Germany is visually distinct from what is show above.

#

As seen here, the base clearly narrows towards the tip of the barrel.

So what you're saying is, we should get 2 thumpers with 2 different guns

So, while it may technically be correct that it could be 140mm, the current gun model isn't accurate to either the 120mm or 140mm.

Different from the main topic of the gun, I believe the description and name of the vehicle is wrong. The M1 Thumper wasn't apart of the CATTB program. It was part of the ATAC program in 1988, where as the CTTB program was in 1993.
It should be the M1 Thumper or the ATAC Thumper.

While the programs are very confusing, and there is many conflicting sources, ultimately the Thumper was developed before the CATTB program started.

This is the Thumper with its 140mm gun.

The image in the article is the same gun, which the text says depics the 140mm barrel.

@timber lintel while the original report is kinda iffy, the rest still holds true.
Missing details on the barrel, and the Thumper was never part of the CATTB program.

#

It predated thr CATTB program by 5 years and was part of thr ATACs program instead.
