Just saw this in the patch notes of today, please, stop removing maps from cw
It is already a poor variety and its frustrating enough that not all seasons come with a map for cw like the just announced komarin and you keep removing them, why?
This is like deleting 1 year of maps work.
I dont want to go back to 6.0 where there was only 3 maps in all the game

Most of em are just too small, the rest tend to lead to circling behavior around the map edges
Curious why Severogorsk wasn't removed from Era 3 as well.
The only ones I dont like is the removal of Mountain Pass.
I quite liked that map in CW.
Im super happy that I'll never see sunset coast again though.

Yet its a map in a mod that needs more maps not less. Some likes the some dont.
I'd say the maps removed will overall raise the quality of the matches in CW. I'm not gonna miss any of em and personally I would want siegfried and severogorsk axed from all of CW.
In all fairness, one spawn had a problem having map control since it required passing in front of the entire team with no cover. It's not a problem for WWII since you can stay hidden when passing through, but I'm CW, especially Era 2 & 3 where you have fast lights that can have an ATGM loaded before the enemy team can even make it to the crossing, it's a problem.
Maps like dragon ridge have that to a much greater degree, and that wasn't removed.
Anyway, I like Mountain Pass. I hate dragon ridge
As far as I am aware, Dragon Ridge does not have any crossings as large and as exposed as the one on Mountain Pass. On Dragon Ridge, the potentially arguable crossings aren't required to cross either.
Basically, the south side of the map had a hill with foliage coverage that has view of 70% of the map. Anyone trying to cross the rice fields in the left or center of the map get out spotted by that position.
And since it has foliage. Its hard to see with TV, and gets camo bonuses.
I wouldn't compare that to the same opening as that one found on Mountain Pass; one has foliage that allows you to move up with at least some form of cover while the other is a giant opening on flat ground without any cover. The only way to safely cross the opening on Mountain Pass would be to pop smoke as there is no other way to protect yourself.
The other problem with comparing the two is that the crossing on Mountain Pass is effective from the beginning of the match to the end of the match, regardless of spotters, whereas the position your suggesting is only really effective once your team has already been overrun.

Oh, I think you're misunderstanding me a bit; I'm simply trying to state that, for Mountain Pass, the enemy has to pass through that opening prior to reaching the frontlines, whereas the one on Dragon Ridge is only really effective once the frontlines starts shifting closer to you. Also, for Mountain Pass, the enemy is guaranteed to be coming from left to right with no variance in start point or end point whereas for Dragon Ridge, the enemy is able to come from multiple locations and will be moving to different positions, all with cover, either hard cover or with simple foliage.
In saying all that, you are still saying one is worse than the other.
One is more of a problem balance-wise than the other and, unless the map is revamped, it will remain a problem. Your argument for Dragon Ridge can theoretically be made for other maps as well such as the hills on Vineyards, the Northern & Northeastern hills on Nebelburg, and the Southeastern hill on Thiepval Ridge.

I'm just trying to say that comparing Mountain Pass to either of these maps doesn't work. Mountain Pass is a Shooting Gallery—the enemy is guaranteed to go from left to right with a variance of maybe 1° - 2° from center; these other maps, while having an opening that would require the enemy to pass through the open at some point, does allow for a much more massive variance in approach and the angle of which they approach your position.
Almost all CW maps allow you to shoot half the map. The problem with Mountain pass is it is practical the whole map. There are plenty of ways to avoid and shoot that position on Dragon Ridge without getting shot back easily.
I'm glad to see the maps gone for CW. We need more real CW maps. Why should I pay 17000 gold for any tank, ATGM or not and have to play teir 2 WW2 maps like province and himmelsdorf. Or other swampy tree and rock strewn abomination in enclosed areas.
This game USED to be about TANKS , not just russian heavies an YOLO - ing light tank players taking advantage of lag in light autocannon toxic tanks. NOT THE PLAYERS AT FAULT BTW.
Your all nits, maps are one of few things that keep game interesting. We need as many as possible to maintain interest. The huge number removed from CW period 1 is just stupid sick.

Side question... did Death Valley get taken out of CW rotation (Era 1) because I pretty much played all day today and never saw it once.
They make the game worse with these ridiculous ideas that they implement... but of course it's because they listen to idiots..
They get increased rotation when they first come out. Might be noticing the return to normal. There are months it seems I go without seeing Sand River.
I don’t play Cold War but I don’t see why any of those maps are removed from era 1 as era 1 is basically tier 8-10 in WW2. Tanks don’t travel at the speed of light like era 2 and 3, so you can afford to have smaller, more brawl focused maps

Gone from era 1? I don’t get it. Not liking a map personally isn’t justification for removal. It played fine in era 1 and plays fine in WW2, it’s just a small map 🤷♂️. I don’t like it either, but it plays fine with slower tanks
Siegfried line being removed in era 1 makes even less sense lol. You have the entire field to use true vision, and the city for slower heavies in era 1. Isn’t that what Cold War players like??
I really don’t think Wargaming understands how we play this game. Numerous maps are essential to keeping players involved in and just playing the game. Maybe more than new tanks. Wish WG would spend more time on getting more maps and less on figuring out how to wring every dollar out of the base.
Idk why they removed so many maps. I liked the variety. Now it seems like there is way less.
I'll speak up as one of the people who pushed for a reduction in the CW map list - although I had nothing to do with selecting which maps were selected.
The server is much happier with a smaller map pool because it has to have hot loaded instance of every single map so that if a map is required for a match, one will be ready. The smaller the map pool, the smaller the number of preloaded maps is required.
This is specifically work to address some of the lag complaints on the EU servers. It won't fully address the issues, but it's an improvement.
The expectation is that maps in the rotation will get periodically updated so that even though it's a smaller map pool in a given release, it will change between releases (although, I am not sure when the refresh is actually scheduled for).

I do like the idea if the maps are gonna be rotated in and out. Maybe have them rotate at the beginning of each season would be nice. If it helps with server lag that is definitely a plus.
I absolutely want to emphasize that I don't know when the list will be updated again and with what frequency - that is way outside my perview.
My general understanding is that the intent is to have the maps that match the current (northern hemisphere, sorry southern hemispher folks) season.
Feel free to make suggestion threads about what you would like to see as a CW rotation in future updates.
But as for this particular suggestion / feedback, I'm going to keep pushing for a more limited map rotation

Yeah imagine trying to cross Mountain Pass to the west with True Vision. Easily seen unspotted and shot. All they really need to do is do the summer version of it with some bush and deeper bed the tanks can be protected in.
It’s a problem in tier 10 when there is a spotter. Don’t need the spotter in CW.
Yes, backwards steps are always a good thing.
I do wish they could be a bit more nuanced with their map selection for CW. Era 1 is far more similar to WW2 tiers 9-10 than it is to CW Era 2 and 3. But it all just get lumped together as "Cold War". There's really very few maps big enough for Eras 2 and 3 and more should be created if they want people to play long term. But Era 1 could easily support, say, Steppes, Abbey and Sand River (and others), for some much needed variety.
Hi, thanks for the additional context in maps and the potential effect onserver performance. That makes sense.
If possible though, please push for more regular updates of maps in rotation. I'm not sure what is happening right now, but weekly changes would seem best. Severals weeks daily play with a small map pool does get boring. Bored players drift off elsewhere to other games.
I recommend creating a separate and distinct feedback thread for discussion of what you'd like to see in the map rotation and for the frequency of changes. This thread is dedicated to the "don't remove them", and I think that has been answered already.
I'm not involved with the actual selection process (or even the frequency of updates) - but as I've said earlier, the thinking is:
- Base it upon the real world seasons (Northern Hemisphere)
- Every 1-3 major releases
It takes non-zero effor to actually build up the map list with all of the various considerations. It also impacts the contents of the game files that you DL to the client. So, changing the contents during the middle of the in-game season, is unlikely. Very unlikely.
My only issue with real world season consideration is that video games are a get away—and sometimes you want to get away from inclement weather. Eg Live in Chicago vacation in Florida in middle of February.
