When instaling linux mint cinamon thru an usb on a HP Chromebook x360 11 G3 EE i get an "[errno 5] Input/output error ..."

Steps to Reproduce:

[Step 1] att the part of enabeling developer mode. also disable whrighting protection thru disconecting the battery inside the laptop.

[Step 2] When flashing UEFI Firmware i went thru number 2 first without encountering the error he got (i dont remember what i exactely did but i went thru it and it did something). then i continued to folow his instructions in doing number 1 (there wer some extra numbers on my side and might have ben a litle swaped. but i did run the things he did).

[Step 3] I downloaded the newest vertion of mint cinnamon and flashed it to a 32GB usb drive with blena echer

[Step 4] I boot up the usb from the laptop and prosed with the instalation. go thru the 7 or so steps and wait fo the istalation to be finnished (thats when i get the "errno 5")

Expected Behavior:

It succesfuly instals

Actual Behavior:

In the middle of instalation i get an "Installation Failed" message
Ful message:
"The installer encounterd an error copying files to hard disk:

[errno 5] Input/output error

this is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. it may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in ned of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler enviorment"

I do not know what kind of usb it is but it dose have 32GB of storage and ive instaled arch from it to a difrent laptop.

few factors can do this its either a bad iso flash, the usb overheated or possibly failing, usb got moved slightly, and/or loose usb port

I tried doing this flashing the usb multiple times and when its in im not moving it at all. A usb can get overheated?

yes, specially when doing intense I/O

another reason is chromebooks usually has eMMC, which is far worse compared to a SATA SSD

Is like arch linux super light or something? Il check if it dose get overheated with a new try.

yes, but you dont get a GUI installer

you use a terminal based installer

Now im confused. Like. I can boot into the usb and instal thru there right?

Yea. It was on a windows pc tho. Doing linux on a chromebook is first time.

Funely enugh. Im having more truble with mint than arch.

What counts as an usb overheating?

Caus i got the same error and its not like that hot at all.

I think it dose that when i use blena echer. And also i dont get that error. Described on that forum. I get the error mid way thru the instalation after ive done the 7 things.

no I meant the drive on the chromebook

on the live environment you can use gparted

i dont know what gparted means. But when it comes to formating the drive. Wuldnt i do that with mrchromebox?

just like how you install arch, you format the drive you are going to install to. for example, fdisk /dev/sdX then once formatted you pacstrap -K pkg pkg blah blah

same thing we apply here you format the drive of the chromebook using gparted then install mint.

if all those fails either something is wrong with the USB or the chromebook

I have no idea... how to do that. Becaus of one of my opsies made the computer wipe wipe. Removed all os. But il look into reformating it if i can. The what shuld i reformat it to?

ext4 or best just leave it as unallocated

you can also do SMART test if you are still in the live environment to test the target drive

When you say live enviorment. Do you mean when im booted into the flashdrive with mint?

I can try to do that. But i dont know what i ned to reformat the drive to for the instalation to work properly.

then search gparted

The key exists it's called the "OS key" or "super" probably has a chrome logo or something for you

I have none with the chrome logo or something saying super.

delete all the partitions

right click on it

then click delete

It's apperantly labeled as a search key and should be above left shift on Chromebooks.
Never had one but that's interesting.

Dont have it. Its wiped

Replaced that with mint instalation.

Is mrchromebox i ned to have instald? Becaus i think its gone together with chrome os. It has no os at all at the moment
