Good day or nights. I am here for a problem that I have.

It started when I installed, as a dual boot, Cachyos, I got it working, but when I was going to enter my preinstalled linux mint, I've encounter a message like:

No irq for 0.108.

And I've boot-repair, didn't work because it only detected the cachyos efi, so I then try mannual... No idea how to deal with it, so... I am here, seeking help.

rotund turtle
#

can you boot into cachy? @grizzled frigate

grizzled frigate
#

in fact I am in it right now

rotund turtle
#

you have Discord on it?

#

or sign in from web browser

grizzled frigate
#

both in it

rotund turtle
#

what desktop environment?

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok are u on discord on cachy rn?

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok start Konsole

#

and let's check few things

#

first

#

maximize konsole

#

then

#

sudo parted -l

grizzled frigate
#

ok

rotund turtle
#

and show result

#

use Spectacle if it's available

grizzled frigate
grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

the screenshot app

grizzled frigate
#

oh

rotund turtle
#

anyway it's fine

#

arranque means 'boot' right?

grizzled frigate
#

yes

#

Do I change language for better understanding?

rotund turtle
#

i think it's fine

grizzled frigate
#

ok

rotund turtle
#

u have two EFI partitions, so that may be the reason here

#

the computer is set to boot from cachy's ESP

#

nvme0n1p2 in this case

#

proper mint efi is on nvme0n1p1

#

so go to bios and change

grizzled frigate
#

ok give a second

#

It didnt work

rotund turtle
#

in the boot priorities

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok . well you did choose the right things

#

do you have the linux Mint bootable USB which contains the boot repair application?

grizzled frigate
#

Yes

rotund turtle
#

ok boot that up

grizzled frigate
#

I’ve tried with a pendrive with ventoy

rotund turtle
#

we'll see from there

#

from its desktop, you'll check a few things in the DISKS app

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

disks app

#

mount nvme0n1p2

#

just click partition 2 (mint's) and click the play icon

#

then click the blue link

#

oops i mean partition 5

#

Mint is on p5

grizzled frigate
#

It shows me this

rotund turtle
#

ok close the warning

#

click on partition 5

#

then the gear icon, > repair filesystem

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

And the “ok” right?

#

I think this wont b that easy….

rotund turtle
#

indeed

#

this is why it wont boot

grizzled frigate
#

Yep

#

And when I enter with Gparted, it says something

rotund turtle
#

yeah don't maximize the apps

#

unless i say

#

show gparted. for nvme0n1

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

close the information box

#

go to Partition menu.

#

see if there's a 'repair' function there

grizzled frigate
#

Nope

rotund turtle
#

make sure p5 is selected

#

and right click p5.

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

what other options?

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

click on 'check'

grizzled frigate
#

It shows me this noe

rotund turtle
#

go to edit menu

#

"undo all operations"

#

then right click partition 5: check

#

then apply

grizzled frigate
#

Done and… still nothing

rotund turtle
#

click OK, and read the error behind

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

yeah it's probably corrupted

grizzled frigate
#

So now… reinstall everything?

rotund turtle
#

if you want to.

#

you can delete partition 5 and leave it unallocated

#

hope you made external backups of your important files

grizzled frigate
#

Hmmm… the external backups I dont mind, but god… reinstall and configurate everything will suck

rotund turtle
#

nothing more I can offer on this.

grizzled frigate
#

Well, delete the partition alongside with efi and then install, isnt it?

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

you can delete the Mint EFI partition too

#

then run up the installer and just choose 'install alongside cachy ' or similar

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

Thanks for everything

rotund turtle
#

I presume the Mint EFI is partition 1

grizzled frigate
#

Yep it is

#

Do I mark this as solved?

rotund turtle
#

no

#

just leave it

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

@rotund turtle yo, one last thing, ehen I try to install I only have the remove evrything and install and the other options

rotund turtle
#

oh

grizzled frigate
#

I deleted both efi and p5

rotund turtle
#

one sec

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

rotund turtle
#

run df -h in terminal

#

does it list efivars?

grizzled frigate
#

Yes

rotund turtle
#

ok let's quickly clean efi

#

show result of efibootmgr

grizzled frigate
#

Give me a second I had stupidly quit and now when I use the comand it shows other thing

rotund turtle
#

back out a page or two in the installer

#

then efibootmgr

grizzled frigate
#

It shows me this.

But before this

rotund turtle
#

close terminal

#

then reopen terminal

#

efibootmgr

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok

#

sudo efibootmgr -b 2 -B

#

sudo efibootmgr -b 0 -B

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

then continue with installation

#

if u dont get the alongside option, choose something else and call me

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

no i meant here

grizzled frigate
#

Oh

#

My bad

rotund turtle
#

not live

#

just tag me here when ur at page 5

rotund turtle
grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

i cant join rn

grizzled frigate
#

O

rotund turtle
#

u only have the erase / something else options still?

grizzled frigate
#

Yes

rotund turtle
#

pick something else

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

rotund turtle
#

pick the big free space in the list of chart

#
  • to add a new
#

300 MiB primary, use as efi system partition

#

at start of space

#
  • again, on remaining free space. do u want separate root/home for mint?
grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

it saves home stuff and theming if u ever got to reinstall linux mint or another distro to root

grizzled frigate
#

Oh, so the yes, separate it sounds good

rotund turtle
rotund turtle
#

then for boot loader location menu, choose the mint ESP u made earlier

#

oh one other thing

#

open gparted and unflag the boot and esp flags from the cachy os ESP

grizzled frigate
#

How do I do that?

rotund turtle
#

rclick : manage flags (on the cachy esp)

grizzled frigate
#

On both of the partitions?

rotund turtle
#

no

#

just the fat32 one

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

Oh it was alredy on

#

So this is all?

rotund turtle
#

take flags off of p2

grizzled frigate
#

Ooh take off

#

Ehm, it changes.

rotund turtle
#

sok

#

msftdata

grizzled frigate
#

Boot is off too and msftdata is on

rotund turtle
#

close gparted

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

rotund turtle
grizzled frigate
#

And there is 1.3GB of ntfs

#

But its old windows isnt it?

rotund turtle
#

not quite right

grizzled frigate
#

Ok I wont touch it then

rotund turtle
#

click p1

#

in the chart

#

and 'change'

#

USE AS: EFI SYSTEM PARTITION

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

Changed

rotund turtle
#

show pic with all three partitions in view in chart

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok bottom menu:

#

bootloader to nvme0n1p1

grizzled frigate
#

Like this?

rotund turtle
#

right. click Install

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

So I install it now

rotund turtle
#

after it is finished installing, u choose 'continue testing'

#

and put the boot and esp flags back on p2

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

rotund turtle
grizzled frigate
#

Final check up

rotund turtle
#

yes

#

continue

grizzled frigate
#

Is that normal?

rotund turtle
#

can u show pic of gparted

#

is the installer complete?

grizzled frigate
#

I did not touch anything

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

ok no matter

#

close all apps, choose restart from the mint menu

grizzled frigate
#

Ok

#

Thanks a lot stunner

rotund turtle
#

does Mint boot up now?

#

@grizzled frigate

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

did it show a GRUB menu with cachy in it?

grizzled frigate
#

No, just directly show

rotund turtle
#

it directly booted to mint?

grizzled frigate
#

Yed

rotund turtle
#

I'd say run sudo os-prober in Mint terminal

#

if it finds Cachy OS, then you can turn on the grub menu for 10 seconds in "system adminisration' app

#

turn top switch on, and put timeout to 10

#

then u save and test

grizzled frigate
rotund turtle
#

oh ok nvm then

grizzled frigate
#

So np?

rotund turtle
#

you'll have to access cachy from your machine's boot menu key at power-on

grizzled frigate
#

Oh, thats not a problem for Me sooo everything is ok
