I got a new Hisense 55 inch TV the other day and plugged up my laptop. Audio coming from laptop speakers is fine but when I switch the audio output to the TV, I hear no audio. How would I go about fixing this issue?

#

I am not getting a dummy output.

Screenshot sound settings when tv is connected

novel verge

how are you connecting it?

plucky aurora
#

HDMI

#

I dont really know how to screenshot the primary screen

Also check TV's volume level when hdmi is connected

plucky aurora
#

I have. The volume is up and I have went up higher as well

tidal rampart
#

So, when you play a video or something, while hdmi is connected, there is no sound anywhere?

plucky aurora
#

Yeah, no sound. I even tried the Sound Test and nothing comes out

tidal rampart
#

Are there other output profiles you can select on HDMI connection?

plucky aurora
#

I have tried all of them, 5.1 to 7.1 and nothin

tidal rampart
#

Did you check the cable itself? Does it transmit sounds when connected to other devices?

plucky aurora
#

Thats a good question

#

I am pretty sure since it is a new one

tidal rampart
#

Check anyway if you can

plucky aurora
#

Yeah

#

It does support it

#

Would it say the name of the TV for the speakers now thinking about it?

tidal rampart
#

If you have a windows laptop or something, can you test it there? If it works on windows then it's likely not the TV or cable part that's the problem

plucky aurora
#

Dang I do not

#

I could try my Switch 2

#

Yeah I am getting audio

tidal rampart
#

Audio from the notebook on the switch? Or the other way around?

#

Or did you mean switch audio on tv?

plucky aurora
#

There is audio coming from the TV when I have it plugged into my Switch 2

#

With the hdmi cable

tidal rampart
#

Are there multiple hdmi ports on the laptop?

plucky aurora
#

Just HDMI and DisplayPort

tidal rampart
#

Ok, open the terminal and show us the result of these commands (with hdmi connected and selected)

inxi -GAxxx
pactl list short sinks
pactl get-default-sink

I got it to work

#

I just had to close my laptop

tidal rampart
#

Close and open the lid?

plucky aurora
#

I think i will just keep it closed because I dont really need the laptop screen for anything

#

I have the laptop sitting down here

tidal rampart
#

I don't get it. Why did you need to connect tv to a laptop if you keep the laptop closed?

plucky aurora
#

Waaait I understand whay is going on.

#

The audio wasnt working because I was watching it at 1440p which doesnt have audio support for this TV I guess?

#

But when I had it at 4k or 1080p the audio was working

tidal rampart
#

.... Why would it not work at 1440p when it works at 4k which is higher?

#

I don't understand the situation anymore, but glad it works for you.

plucky aurora
#

Actually it might be the cable

#

Thanks. Sorry I might be a bit silly

Alright
