#Attempting to go back to Windows.
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'm trying to reinstall and go back to Windows 11 and have been following multiple Youtube guides but none of them seem to work or encounter problems that I don't know how to handle.
I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me and guide me how to install Windows 11 from Linux.
do you have compatible hardware for Linux?
I genuinely do not know anymore
what was the issue u were having yesterday?
Well, the sole reason as to why I installed Linux was to try to get better performance when gaming and also to escape Window's...things but then I ran into problems regarding the Caps Lock which isn't really big but it's annoying me and also, I got Steam to work and launched the 1 singular game I always play which ran smoothly on Windows, expecting it to be the same on Linux but it was extremely laggy
And right now? I don't really care about trying to fix Linux anymore, I just want to go back to Windows
nvidia card?
I'd give you the specs but that'd have to wait a bit cuz I'm trying to install Windows woe or whatever it's called
So give me a moment
woe is kinda hard.
I'm following a video guide but the main problem I'm encountering is this
from the brief read I did on it
well look at the list there
it's only showing Rufus. I presume disk 0 is completely just the USB drive
Yeah
u in linux atm?
I'm really just tired I've been at it since morning and now it's 2:30 PM
Yeah, I am
then inxi -MCG
ok u should be seeing the 500 gig samsung
also i take it you made the rufus usb on a working windows computer, yes?
I think so?
Someone guided me to install linux when I was on Windows using usb
But I think we used Balena Etcher
no look above
at the lsblk
the usb says rufus_boot for label
is that containing the linux ISO, or the windows ISO?
I think it's the Windows 11 one
SEcure boot disabled
I don't really understand a single thing
put the proper nvidia driver, then run up steam with the dedicated GPU
Is this to get steam games to run smoothly or-
you pc has two video processors
the intel one is basic, and runs the desktop
the nvidia one, (with proper driver) is used to run intensive video processing tasks, like 3D gaming
And you certainly were not utilising it
I'm-
run up Driver Manager from start menu
I get that you're trying to help me and I really appreciate it but, can I Just go back to windows
Linux is def not meant for me and it's obvious
Can you VC?
.
Alr, i'll give it a try
But I'm still leaning on the option of going back to Windows
Linux mint is sweet, it's nice and sleek but it's really showing that it's not for me
Either that, or I messed up at installing it
then keep in mind u will likely need a second usb stick with the special motherboard RST (storage) drivers unzipped and even then .. i didnt see a 'have disk' thing in the windows installer
well if u only have one.. does pc have a sd card reader?
or u have a usb card reader and sd card?
tell me when nvidia is installed and u rebooted to mint
ctrl alt t
NOw what
inxi -Gx
NOw what
minimize that
open start menu
go to games: steam and right click it
choose 'run with dedicated GPU'
Alr it showed run with nvidia gpu
Yep
NOw I just hop on my game and see if it increases or not?
launch it and try out your fave game
I'm forced to use uh
GE PRoton or whatever that is
It's validating
ALso, do you see the problem I Have with Capslock?
Even though I turned it off, the word after it still gets capitalized if I type too quickly
that i dont know
i only use shift typically, UNLESS I WANT EVERYTHING LIKE THIS
what did the game or whole pc
I'm on the game screen and my laptop is completely frozen
hm can move cursor?
tap the caps lock key twice, and notice if the light toggles
Try ctrl-alt-backspace
Nothing happened
ok it's fully frozen
I'ma shut down
yeah reboot and make usb with Ventoy
I'm dead if it's that simple
^
ok right click: extract here
ALr
ok take quick detour
open DISKS from start menu
and choose the usb drive on the left
then show a pic of whole window
Master boot record?
mhm
Alr, now what?
click each mounted partition there, and click stop icon for each
ALr done
ok minimize disks app
Both are stopped
this is what u will strive for
Alr, what next?
minimize the app
Alr
put the file manager (go into the ventoy folder) next to an open terminal
apps have gear icons. see the third row
Yeah?
Will we be using the 86-64 one?
This one, correct?
yes
Alr
go to the option menu
Uh huh
leave space at end of drive. 3096 MiB (3 gib)
Like this?
Hit ok on the what
n just be showing the main ventoy window
??
I Did
ok click install
Alr
It's installing so give it a min
ALr it's done
It says that ventoy has been successfully installed on my device
ok close ventoy gui
go to Disks app
GIve me a moment, I Need to use the bathroom will you?
ya
layout should look like this in the Disks app now, for the 32 gig USB device
Alr
then launch the disks app
Here
click free space at the end, then the + icon
label /name : SPARE_3G
wuh
choose FAT for the type
Well damn
and put name in vol. name
.
Alr
now go to acer website for product support and downloads
Do I close the disks or leave it
This?
point is get the motherboard driver, especially for STORAGE for uru model
unzip and place them after onto that SPARE_3G disk using file manager
then copy/paste the windows ISO to the VENTOY disk
SO I Need to find the motherboard driver
oh and for good measure, since u have big ventoy partition, also put mint ISO or some small distro there
just incase
Can we vc but like, not talk so I can share my screen
So you can see what I'm doing and guide me 😭
wait
look at inxi -M result
it should say the product number
put that in the website
?
yep put that product string into the website acer
Like, I entered the serial number and I'm on here
if u want to see the serial number, run sudo inxi -M (or look at sticker)
But the problem is that, idk what I'm supposed to be looking for on this website
get one of the two IRST drivers
Idk what I'm supposed to be looking for
plus one of the two chipset drivers
These?
This good?
mhm
Where am I supposed to put them?
i just told u
Put them in here, right?
yes copy
It's copying over
then ur two ISOs (one is linux , for emergency) into "Ventoy"
So I install one ISO from WIndows 11 and the other is, let's say Linux MInt right?
if u have Mint ISO lying around
I don't, so I'll redownload it
mx linux is also good
they have a small ISO calld the fluxbox edition if ur net is slow
so u dont have to flash the usb drive.. u can easily swap out bootable ISOs at will, on any computer
I tried to do a dual boot when I first installed LInux and uh, it failed horribly
point is to let it rest a minute or so after copy finishd
and always (if need to remove usb) do a proper eject/unmount or full shutdown before pulling it
Btw after I finish this and goes back to windows
I can use the usb like a normal usb right?
Ventoy still has to be kept on it?
Wth, can't I Just empty the usb after I get back on Windows and forget about it?
it's in the efi partition called VTOYEFI
u could.
but
It should be fine now, right?
see "thiojoe - 4 usb's everyone should make before it's too late" on yt
which if they fit inside of 27 gigs, u dont need 4 usb
end of the world type title 😭
What's the next step?
Try booting up
to the usb
if they copied over fine ya
On god please say they do
use UEFI usb in the boot menu
Which one?
just use 'normal mode'
Alr alr
Wait so once I remove the USB after windows is done
I'd still be on windows right?
presuming it installed onto the 500 gig Samsung.
click 'load driver'
Alr
what did u think u'd have to do?
go into the SPARE and find the RST folder and go in it
it should just need the folder to find what it needs
install all three
Yeah but it still says can't be installed on fidk 1
(this will delete Mint off the SSD)
So now.m
after deleted, select that empty space, and click next
Yeah but I can take it
But after it's done, I can unplug the USB and it's still be windows right?
plus if u later feel to try linux again.. come back in a new post n do a dualboot (properly)
But everytime I want to go back on Mint, I can just plug the USB on and use Mint?
Oh alr
u may do that, but it's a live environment so wont persist on reboots
Ohhh ok
Yeah I'll think about it
Might have to ask for like, alot of help with stuff on Mint
Cuz I encountered alot of problems and stuff
Especially the weird caps lock thing
dont forget after Windows is installed, u will still likely need to spoonfeed it more drivers for touchpad n other stuff. but u know the Acer site now
That was the thing that pissed me off the most
n prob the Nvidia driver for sure
The very first one yeah
So nothing too much to worry about?
ur fine on that i think
Wooo
Setting up a new PC, including Windows 11 installation and activation (with or without a Microsoft account), required BIOS changes, and installing motherboard and GPU drivers. The focus of this video is achieving the driver installs bloatware-free, which is how I personally always set things up.
This video follows the specification and construc...
this a good vid to check out fully.
about the spoonfeeding etc
Alr tysm
aight gl with it. im out
