#Did a BIOS update and now grub is being weird
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
First thing try restarting into the bios/uefi then from there boot into windows and restart
If that doesn't work try running boot repair from a usb drive
I went on Windows and it seems like Lenovo Vantage had something else it needed to do on there
Now Windows is the default boot option (which happens everytime I do BIOS updates)
I'll try to switch it back to Linux and see if it works
Windows likes to play god with your pc and often times it breaks something
It seems like grub is still having issues
Still showing that same page
I'm surprised this is happening considering Windows and Linux are installed on 2 separate SSDs
Then restart into bios again and check if the linux drive/partition is set as the main one or if it got reset after the update. if it got reset to the state of windows being the main boot change the boot order and check again
Check if you have the secure boot on it might be the source of your issues. BUT if you have it find your bitlocker key AND WRITE IT DOWN before doing anything to prevent being locked out of your drive by windows
It's a last ditch effort really so try to avoid it until necessary
It says secure boot disabled
Okay then go grab a usb drive with a tuxedo iso installed and ready to go as a bootable system and within that system run boot repair and hopefully it'll fix things
I have a USB drive with Tuxedo on it, but it's not the latest version, would that still work?
Hopefully it will. If it doesn't work, go into windows and yeet the newest version on the drive and then run it again
For some reason when I inserted the USB inside it booted into Linux, like not the liveUSB one but my actual installation
Okay then, now take the usb out and try to run it again
Ofc turn the pc off before taking the drive out
I clicked on the BIOS boot menu to boot from USB it instead booted my installation
Sometimes stupid things fix the issue
I restarted and it seems to have gone back to normal?
Seems like the issue is fixed thanks to inserting the USB drive and not doing anything?
It might be that the usb provided grub with the files that got accidentally wiped somehow and jumpstarted the further checks that allowed the system to write them back into place during the booting procedure
That's nice to know
I'm glad I had that USB lying around then
Also thank you for your help
sometimes the files might get damaged for no reason and the usb allows the boot program to read the correct versions and save them into the main drive
I always keep the usb with the iso on me for the reason of unexpected troubleshooting
