this wasnt an issue before converting but it could still just be my mic being broken, i converted to mint a few days ago could someon help me when i try to speak with my friends all they here is white noise.

Are you talking about the inbuilt mic or headphones? Nevertheless I had issues with mic on my pc too. There wasn't much to do other then to reduce the input volume. You can reduce the volume of the input being recorded. This doesn't completely fix the issue but it reduced the white noise for me.
