if u want to be safe do a timeshift snapshot
but generally, u can ask questions here if ur not sure of stuff
but i saw someone the other day posted the official instructions for proton vpn and it was easy af - just DONT do the gnome shit
it's not a big deal except u wasted a Gigabyte or more of space. plus u may find it ugly and it takes over your desktop. u have to know how to switch back to Cinnamon from login menu
go to official proton vpn page and find the ubuntu instructions. if none are for ubuntu or mint, then find for Debian.
and go thru line by line
did u actually GET GNOMED?
do whereis gnome-shell
aight well.. just log out and click the circle or session chooser in the login manager, and choose "Cinnamon - default" and log back in
if u had a timeshift snapshot, just roll back to some other day before this happened
