#Any way to improve Linux Mint's handling of the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2?

So to start off, the headset by default seems to just work without configuration, however some features do not seem to work.

  • Headset does not power off automatically when no sound is detected.
    • On Windows it can be configured to automatically turn itself off. I don't remember if this is the default behaviour or not.
  • Headset is relatively quiet when set to 'digital' in sound settings.
    • Switching to analogue fixes this, and when trying to switch back to digital it keeps the same volume as analogue. I suspect Mint is actually just not switching back to digital as it should. On Windows I am pretty sure it pretty much only ever uses digital.

Both of these issues do not exist under Windows. I am also connected using the little USB-C dongle provided by the manufacturer, and not Bluetooth.

Also side-topic but if anyone has a way to completely disable the two monitor options in sound settings, that'd be great. Neither of my monitors have speakers so having these two show up is a bit annoying.

I've tried using that PulseAudio tool a lot of people suggest online, which apparently is supposed to work with PipeWire, but that did not actually work.

...I realise I posted this in the Linux specific forum and not the Linux Mint forum, but I can imagine this issue would be prevalent regardless of your chosen distribution.

did your headset come with software for windows? if that's the case then that functionality won't work on linux unless someone made an app for this headset for linux. Linux Mint keeps the volume you set for a device, whether it's digital or analog. each has its own volume slider

Yes so it has it's own app by SteelSeries and I've seen people create an app for some functionality but I wasn't able to get it to work. I may have to try again

This means every time I turn my PC on I have to open sound settings and switch to analogue and back.
