I have a question on using the software manager to install steam in Mint to my PC (RTX 3090). I hope this is the place to start, if not let me know. Here is the problem: When I install steam fron the software Mgr everything seems to go fine until I get the steam icon that is titled Steam installation or is it install seem. when I click on it tofinish the install the steam interface loads but I doon't get get any start up routines that I usually get. And the install steam icon just stays. For instance when I click on the menu serach bar and add steam the onlt thing that pops up is the install steam icon, NOT a regualr "just" steam icon. Boy this sounds confusing but I did my best to describe the situation.

So steam doesn't start, as I understand?

#

If you try to start it from the terminal, what does it say?

Steam will start but I have the same icon that is labeled steam install form the install from the softwar mgr. When I hit that icon it's supposed to (from youtube at least) finish the final insytall of steam where it starts up steam for the fiorst toime. After that is succesful, according to videos I suppose to get just a Steam icon to click on to start steam from there on end. But i don't I still have kust the steam install one. Now when I do click this steam install icon steam does start but i feel like I should just end up with a plain "Steam" hwen I search for it in the menu.

Then right click "install steam" menu entry and click properties, change the name to steam manually there, and icon if needed

Haha, I did for now but I was hoping to have the install behave the way it's supposed to???

It does start steam, doesn't it? So it behaves as it's supposed to. We can fix small glitches like that ourselves

I have to use the 570 driver becuase the newest one locks up Elite Dangerous in steam

#

But the 570 does work well.

#

Is it whatever works??

Make sure you disable fast startup in windows, then

Use the highest driver version that works reliably

#

Mint doesn't provide nvidia driver 590 yet as far as I know.

jolly sentinel
#

did you mean disable fast startup in the BIOS?

Thank you for your help.

i'm assuming this is fixed but usually to install steam you just sudo apt install steam-installer and then open Steam in the menu and let it set up the steamroot directory. In the software manager Steam pops up in 2 different versions

#

was it a driver issue?
