get to the GRUB menu as shown
choose 'start Linux Mint: Advanced options'
pick one of the linux kernels with <recovery mode> next to it
from purple screen, do the option that mentions dpkg fix
once done, continue boot
then reboot once again , normally.
thank you very very much Ill do that and report back
So Ive done the above steps and Im still getting the error. I also am unable to open my software sources
This is what Im getting now when I attempt to update from the terminal
Could this be from when I downloaded snap and vivaldi?
show inxi -Sr
One moment
you don't run "mintupdate" from the terminal.
use screenshots
Trying to get discord to open on my laptop
whereis snapd ; snap list
whereis firefox
That I do not know lol I was trying to install vivaldi browser since thats what I normally use and it had me install snap first
vivaldi should be in the repos. apt search vivaldi*
they must have a deb package .. anyway
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade --fix-broken-packages
u missed part of it so retype the last part accurately
sudo apt install synaptic
all u to was get the deb, yet you purposely broke the linux mint lock on snaps, and installed snap...
this has been completed
Saving that, thank you. I do not see Synaptic in my menu or I am being dumb again
in synaptic, check the package menu if it has a repair broken stuff option
It is greyed out for me
Ah wait its in the edit tab
Does not seem to be doing anything?
is it greyed out?
picked repair broken packages and it said repaired and now this at the bottom
ok.
so, leave it alone
u can use this program to update and upgrade stuff. look in 'status'
it'll show above that, what may be upgraded
or all , from toolbar
you can drag the horizontal divider a bit lower to see more of the package list. and maximize it
dont drag it so low
Noted, is there something to look for in here?
u can look at bottom left, on statusbar for info, or in the lower pane
Noted noted
but this does NOT touch snaps or flatpaks
Is update manager just for snap/flatpak?
Gotcha
I mean at this point if itll fix my apt configuration issue Im fine with removing snap completely
flatpak --help in terminal . u can upgrade them from there too
cant run two software shops at once
Ah makes sense
Is there anything else I need to do to fix the APT issue? Or should I remove snap or maybe try a fresh install of mint?
A lot has happened, let's restart and see if the original error is fixed?
I believe Ive maybe resolved it. Did some digging and the snap install broke some things. Did a clean install of mint and it has resolved my apt config issue. Thank you all for the assistance
