#mouse-extrabuttons as super button?
175 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
german keyboard layout, but im talking about the mouse extrakeys
this bug just appeared randomly
I cannot help you there, I have never had a mouse with extra buttons on it, but I believe it may be related towards mint more so than XFCE, in itself XFCE does not support any shortcut keys like that. Let me look towards the mint documentation for a brief moment to see if I can find anything that could help.
alright thanks for trying to help toho
idk i keep having issues with xfce like freezing taskbar or crashes but i cant find any solution
That is strange, what is the uptime on your system?
what does uptime mean
i dont have any kind of hibernation it might be on since 6 hours
neofetch in the terminal, and if it isn't installed install it with sudo apt install neofetch
interesting
6 hours 41 minutes
hmmm
a small sidenote this kinda fixed while i removed compositor and restarted. but i cant work with that
on some apps it is unavoidable like blender or steam
Have you tried un-plugging the mouse, holding the power switch to turn off the system, and plugging in the mouse, and then powering back on?
What compositor?
xfce one the graphics one
could you send a screenshot?
well i had the issue before and i dont want to restart it every time to fix it just reappears its already annoying that i need to write weird commands in tty to prevent my system to freak out
of what
of the compositor
how, i just know the one command to disable it
what is the command?
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false
Please re enable it, just run the same command but with "true" instead of "false" then you should be able to go into the keyboard application to disable to super key shortcut for your mouse buttons.
i have enabled it because it hurts my eyes, secondly the key isnt in the keybinds setting
the extrakeys arent registerd but they still trigger super button
I don't know what to say then' You'll have to wait for some other soul to come along and help, shouldn' be to long
alright thanks for helping to. i feel like its impossible to get help on this server
on xfce, a handy zoom featured is enabled, where if you press and hold Alt, and then roll the mousewheel up or down, it will zoom in or out.
if you don't want that at all, check Window management tweaks in settings and disable that function
should be near "compositor" or desktop effects
i know i love the feature but it randomly gets disabled and randomly enabled
perhaps one of your mouse buttons is acting as an ALT key of the keyboard, and that would certainly do it
as in, you're intending to scroll down in a document or page, and your thumb or something touches that other button, (thus engaging ALT) and then the whole desktop zooms
its not about the zoom tho
ill repeat. if i press any extrabuttoms it does just open the menu
you mean the "start menu" like Windows has?
and it does that reliably every time?
so that means those buttons are bound to being the "Win" key , also known as the "Super" key
yes superkey
not sure how to unbind them.
perhaps with a flatpak app called Piper
which needs some additional library called libratbag to be installed, as well as running in background
but it cant be that this just appeared before it didnt trigger super
or, I've heard another mouse app called Solaris
from terminal, show inxi -S
as well as apt list -i linux-image*
linux-image-5.15.0-160-generic/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 5.15.0-160.170 amd64 [installed]
linux-image-generic-5.15/now 5.15.0.160.156 amd64 [installed,upgradable to: 5.15.0.164.159]
inxi -r

Linux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.
i take it u did a whole OS upgrade
i did a what?
u upgraded the whole OS from Mint 20 or 21
i dont remember really i had noble first switched to jammy for compatibility and then back to noble
well u gotta get rid of those jammy repos or all hell will break loose
ok how
open Software Sources, and remove the 'other repositories'
the ones that refer to jammy

click addiotiona repos on the side
found the jammy one from "microsoft"
i know. i listed it there
so just remove the mark and update
perhaps u had installed skype or something
vscode
when u were on jammy repos
yeah remove and then it'll prompt before u close the window to refresh the catalog
updating cache
thats alot of updates
if still issues, go bak to update manager, click View> go into kernels. install a 6.1 or 6.8 kernel
well i downgraded to 5.15 for drivers
aight. well i hope the updates and removing the other repos helps the mouse issue after reboot.
uhm 80kb/s is kinda slow ill have to wait overnight for it to finish
my update crashed (flatpak) and my screen freezed what now
frikkin' flatpaks
reboot
force reboot
then untick that crap from the update manager re: flatpaks
also change ur mirrors from Software Sources to some other if it's being slow
click both flags and pick another
after restarting the extrabuttonbug consists and my taskbar freezed
it did download and then flatpak
from terminal which should appear, do mintupdate
what's it say?
does it bring up the Update Manager window?
untick the flatpak stuff from its SETTINGS
then run whatever the update manager proposes
its still around 100kb i already changed flags
can also add another 5.15 kernel if any of that are presented in the Update manager's "View" menu, kernels
either one a step newer or some steps older
yeah?
im on the newest 5.15
it allows me to go uefi tho
yes
I realised I entered 160 it was just standard mint but more buggy
I got stuck in homescreen and couldnt leave
what's a "homescreen" this isn't a phone or tablet
I meant whisky mb
ctrl-alt-backspace on Mint and some other distros gets u out
install some other kernel then
and boot it
I have the 164 one
or if it's too bugged out, then backup your personal files externally, and FRESH INSTALL Linux Mint 21.3 - from scratch.
This is the third time ill do it each time i ask for help its reinstalling mint
I just want to remove the extrabutton keybind wth
well if the menu's screwed and freezing....
That was before but not this intense
I kept needing to go tty to fix it every 3 minutes
did u have a saved timeshift from days or a week ago?
I removed it cause it kept taking like 12gb daily
then u dont have it friggin do daily!
do one manual one as soon as u install and evrything is performing well. and schedule a weekly and done
It still did tho i set monthly and it still had the big backup
How often do i need to reinstall mint it doesnt make anysense if even on installing its bugged
if u do ONE manual backup. that will always remain.
just try fresh 21.3
live boot that exact distro whether MATE, xfce, or cinnamon from a live stick and test the hell out of it.
It works with live
of 21.3?
22.2
well . up to u.
i think all the messing around with extraneous repos n crap has messed this up.
i stick by my recommendation
how would that change by reinstalling and lack of exp
thanks for helping but i dont think ill reinstall stuff again
then rollback to the one timeshift you do have
unless u were a fool and got rid of it.
im a fool but the timeshift was already a bugged one
