I deleted an application’s folders and now it says the folders still exist in the search menu but when I click it says it does not exist in directory

Steps for recreation:
Install appimage (Ryubing),
Delete the files,
search up ryujinx in bottom left mint search menu thing

Thought the folders were going to dissapear.
Now broken appearance in bottom left search.

#

I also can’t delete the app icons associated with the app

#

To be honest i much prefer a guide on a total reinstallation of the system with everyhing new

magic herald
#

clear "recent items" in the start menu

honest zealot
#

and the app icons?

magic herald
#

where do they appear?

#

lesson: dont install stuff unconventionally.

honest zealot
#

yeah i get that now 🙁

#

but there are like no apps i want normally

honest zealot
#

the app icons are in /var/lib/flatpak/appstream/flathub/x86_64/active/icons and also in timeshift ( 🙁 )

magic herald
#

flatpak residue

honest zealot
#

so what may i do?

magic herald
#

Idk if Stacer can do it.

#

it has a clean up function

#

u uninstalled the flatpak?

honest zealot
#

?

magic herald
#

like flatpak remove <whatever the name of the flatpak package is>

honest zealot
#

...

#

ok so how do i reinstall linux mint

magic herald
#

the app icons are in /var/lib/flatpak/appstream/flathub/x86_64/active/icons and also in timeshift ( 🙁 )

#

CLEARLY u install some flatpak application

honest zealot
#

literally did not i got it from the site i didnt touch flatpak

magic herald
#

do flatpak list

#

in terminal

#

perhaps u have some other fp installed that relies on those icons. and how many icons are we talking here?

honest zealot
#

2

magic herald
#

that's nothing

honest zealot
#

yeah but annoyin

magic herald
honest zealot
#

done there is not the app

magic herald
#

flatpak list

#

what does it result in , when u type that perfectly in terminal?

#

reinstalling a whole OS just cuz of 2 icons is really silly and a waste of time

honest zealot
#

discord,
freedesktop -sdk,
GL thing,
GL thing,
GL thing,
GL thing,
codecs,
kde,
another app

magic herald
#

yeah so leave the var folder alone.

#

prob those things have or use the icon

#

var folder is protected from user modification by root privileges for a reason

honest zealot
honest zealot
magic herald
#

first find the icon

#

right click it , and do Properties

#

does its modification date and/or creation date even coincide when you installed that other app u got rid of?

honest zealot
#

yeah it makes sense

#

they coincide

magic herald
#

press ctrl-L in file manager

#

what is the exact path shown?

honest zealot
#

/var/lib/flatpak/appstream/flathub/x86_64/active/icons/128x128

magic herald
#

go up one level from there

#

so you're in icons folder

#

then right click the 128x folder, and do 'open as root'

#

then u can delete the one or two icons related to the thing in question

honest zealot
#

nice!

#

there is one well two more things

magic herald
#

brb

honest zealot
#

aight

magic herald
#

bk. what is it?

honest zealot
#

so there is one more folder

#

oh nvm its gone ok 🙂

#

last thing nowwwwwwwwwwwwww...

#

my auudio does not work once it gets to a certain amount

magic herald
#

like I said, get Stacer. it has a clean up thing

#

as well as a nice way to see resources n other stuff

honest zealot
#

so stacer for audio too?

magic herald
#

wdym audio?

honest zealot
#

my audio doesnt work below like 25%

magic herald
#

why would u make the connection between a system monitor and maintenance app and that issue?

#

no one's audio works below 25% in linux. (unless u put your ear really really close to the speaker) the reason is the way the scale is computed.

honest zealot
magic herald
#

what do u hear at 26%?

#

is it blaringly loud, or is it barely audible there?

honest zealot
#

quite noticeable. like 4% volume on windows

#

same with 25%. 24% nothing

magic herald
#

so "quite noticeable"

#

then what happens at 23%?

honest zealot
#

nothing

magic herald
#

same audible level?

#

or silence?

honest zealot
#

same as 24 which is nothing

magic herald
#

so "still noticable"

honest zealot
#

huh

magic herald
#

what happens at 15% then?

honest zealot
#

silence is nothing

#

15% nothing or silence depending on what you call it

magic herald
#

so at 26% u said it was quite noticable

#

what happens at 25%? and use proper language

honest zealot
#

25% was more or less 26% perhaps slightly quieter. at 24% and less it is silent

magic herald
#

does it drop off to pure silence when u cross to 25

honest zealot
#

when i cross to 24

magic herald
#

ok

#

hm

#

imma test mine. that sounds abnormal, and likely some soundcard slight bug

#

aka incompatibility

#

on mine, it's barely a whisper at 20% and my ear is 2 feet from speaker.

#

but it does transition smoothly from 100 to 20

#

anything below 20 on mine is utterly silent/inaudible

honest zealot
#

ok mine jumps straiight from like normal talk to silence at 25/24

#

i mean i have headset so could be quieter but i dont think so

magic herald
#

i usually operate my thing from 100 to 55

#

sometimes 100-150 for stupid quiet stuff

#

or if i had my amp turned a bit too low, and lazy to get up

magic herald
honest zealot
#

i would say so

magic herald
#

not much i can help u with on that. Just use the youtube or spotify or media player's volume slider if u need to smooth it a bit below 25%

honest zealot
#

ok

magic herald
#

on youtube, it's just the arrows up/down

honest zealot
#

one more thing on audio though

#

my monitor has a speaker and when i use it and the tester it only makes a sound when using the left souynd check

magic herald
#

your mixer . open it up

#

in Cinnamon, just type SOUND in the start menu

#

switch to HDMI or DP (i presume that's to channel audio to your monitor)

#

fix the balance slider to the center.

#

or right of center, if the right speaker on monitor is weaker/ half busted

honest zealot
magic herald
#

play some media file

honest zealot
#

it only plays what would come out the left speaker on headset

magic herald
#

yeah but do the monitor speakers work?

#

im assuming there are two of them?

honest zealot
#

lemme check

#

so it appears to have two and idk if they both work how do i check?

magic herald
#

play some song and put ur ear up to each speaker ofc

honest zealot
#

so simply your saying linux is fine and my monitors speakers suck... ok so i should get someexternal speakers?

magic herald
#

idk what was the result?

honest zealot
#

nothing from right

magic herald
#

over hdmi, it should transmit both stereo channels, digitally. then stuff happens inside the monitor to extract the audio stream, turn it into analog signal, then pass it to some built-in amplifier, then to each speaker

#

so something in that chain is bad

#

if ur monitor has a menu button, navigate it.

#

u or someone may have turned balance way left. or the internal chain is broken somewhere

honest zealot
#

dont believe so

magic herald
#

since u mentioned it doesnt work balanced when the headphone is plugged to monitor, then likely the right-channel link in the chain is broken between the digital-to-analog converter inside the monitor its internal amp. or the right channel processing circuitry in the amp is screwed.

honest zealot
#

Interesting. Speaker shopping time ig

#

Thanks 🙂

magic herald
#

yw

magic herald
honest zealot
#

Usb?

magic herald
#

and that the speakers have that too (if they're amplified pc speakers, they'll have it ofc. marked as Aux (3.5mm) or line-in , or RCA red and white jacks

magic herald
#

well i mean some computer speakers may have that, either to strictly receive POWER

#

or if they have a usb audio (internally a DAC is present) those will be wildly expensive

honest zealot
#

I think o have one jacks

magic herald
#

well test it first

#

i dont see it in your mixer

#

i just saw some usb stuff and the HDMI

honest zealot
#

What you don’t see?

magic herald
#

show result of inxi -MAxxx from terminal plz

honest zealot
#

I’m outside I will do when I get back sorry

magic herald
#

k

#

how do u connect your headphones or headset to the computer? is it a wired connection? what type of connector is on end of that wire?

honest zealot
#

im back

#

wired and usb

magic herald
#

get a pair of standard analog headphones

#

I don't think you have the soundcard right.

#

can show inxi -Axxx result too plz

honest zealot
magic herald
#

alright, your usb headset is device-3

#

where in the heck is your built-in audio in the mixer?

#

the nvidia is the HDMI 'card' for audio

#

the intel Raptor lake must be the onboard aka built-in soundcard

honest zealot
#

huh

magic herald
#

unless it only shows in mixer if headphones are plugged into the onboard card

#

is this a laptop or desktop?

honest zealot
#

desktop

magic herald
#

ok that could be why.

#

when u get around to finding a 3.5 mm cable and an amplifier with Aux-in , or analog headphones , do test out the line-out jack of the PC

honest zealot
#

ok

#

do you know hwo to install nvidia drivers?

magic herald
honest zealot
#

yup

honest zealot
#

i need two things?

#

i only got one hole

magic herald
#

no no. i just showed two cables depending on what the amp has for its input

honest zealot
#

bro what language are you speaking cvan you speak like dumber so i can understand it pls sorry i aint smart

magic herald
#

i was saying to test the audio line-out jack of your computer if it even works.

#

if u have a boombox kicking around, which has line-in and that first cord shown, use it.

#

or some ancient amplified speakers, which usually come with the cord anyway.

honest zealot
#

ok

#

why are there two ends though

honest zealot
#

ok 🙂

#

yo do you know how to degrade back to previous gpu driver

#

i think it broke smth

magic herald
#

Can u see more choices in the Driver Manager?

#

put on nouveau one

honest zealot
#

is that the default one from linux or something lke that?

magic herald
#

then research your specific GPU

#

get its exact model with inxi -Gx

#

and see if it's still supported on linux, and with which linux kernel, and what optimal driver version

#

note Secure Boot must be off for any other than nouveau one to take effect.

#

see #1429152383018991697 message for more info.

honest zealot
#

nope it wasnt the driver

#

shi what did i do

magic herald
#

make a new post for the issue and describe what led up to it. and include inxi -b info there.
