Heyo, so I’m new to Linux’s OS but have been excited to get into it and learn it, issue is whenever I try to boot off my USB I run into the issue in the image below. I’m not sure what’s causing this as everywhere I’ve looked up the issue people say it’s an issue with the ISO however I have switched Isos 5 times, checking each of their sha256 and verified they were legit so I’m just confused what to do at this point. Any help is appreciated šŸ’•

If you used BalenaEtcher, trash that program and use Rufus

topaz mason
#

I used Ventoy

bleak cosmos
#

you'll know by seeing UEFI written in the lower left corner of the first ventoy white screen

#

also verify the ISO from the 2nd white ventoy screen and ENSURE A MATCH . sha256

Yeah that’s my bad, didn’t read right checking now

#

Well as I had said at the top, I had already checked the sha256 before I had checked it from the 7zip

bleak cosmos
#

if checksum matches, and still no live boot, it may be the graphics card

topaz mason
#

But doesn’t hurt to double check

bleak cosmos
topaz mason
#

100%

#

(She’s taking a bit to calculate give it a second haha)

#

Looks like it’s the matching sha256 if I’m not incorrect

bleak cosmos
#

if u compared to official one then press enter if they matched

#

try compatibility mode šŸ’€

topaz mason
#

Okay 😭

#

Maybe it’s the graphics card? I can give you which one I have if need be

bleak cosmos
#

list it

topaz mason
#

OR AH SHIT

#

I have an idea of what it may be

#

My CPU has built in graphics that’s different from my actual graphics card and I was running into an issue before where it would read the built in graphics as default instead of the graphics card

#

Lemme list both out to ya

#

Okay so
my CPU (with those built in graphics that may be causing some issues) is the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
My GPU (The actual card I have) is the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT

bleak cosmos
#

AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT was released on May 10, 2022

#

this should be fine

#

and not need compat. mode at all., neither for the iGPU

#

however, you can try disabling onboard graphics from within the advanced BIOS settings as a trial.

topaz mason
#

Maybe

#

Let’s see if I can even remember how to do that šŸ˜…

#

I did remember how, disabled the iGPU

#

Okay booting her up

#

If it was these integrated graphics giving me troubles again I’m gonna crash out lolol/j

bleak cosmos
#

they shouldn't anyway

topaz mason
#

Update

#

The gpu services error is gone

bleak cosmos
#

ok give it the full 2.25 minutes

topaz mason
#

Yes sir 🫔

bleak cosmos
#

for live boot to reach desktop

topaz mason
#

3 minutes later and the error is still at the top

bleak cosmos
#

welp, i guess that's that then

topaz mason
topaz mason
bleak cosmos
#

try linuxmint debian edition 7

topaz mason
#

Alrighty

#

What’s the difference between that and cinnamon?

bleak cosmos
#

it's still cinnamon

#

different package base, but prett much same software and everything

topaz mason
#

Gotcha, here’s hoping, I’ll update you when I try to live boot it

topaz mason
#

Alrighty she’s starting up

#

@bleak cosmos

#

I appreciate all the help! :0

#

Oou actually, new issue has cropped up, I was clicking around, making sure I liked the operating system, immediately love it and I’ve looked into Linux Mint a lot so I’m pretty sure it’s for me soooo I clicked the Install Linux Mint icon

#

Annnd nothing is occurring, everything else is functioning, can click up Firefox, mess with my clock a bit all that jazz, everything else works except that install button

narrow river
#

wait a bit

#

installer takes a while

topaz mason
#

I might just be impatient

#

Fair, thank you

narrow river
#

it's running off of a usb stick afterall

topaz mason
#

Y’know what, fair point 😭

#

Still nothing and I don’t even get the spinning loading wheel on the cursor

#

Tried opening it from the menu too, no loading wheel, no signs that anything is opening

#

And I understand it takes a while because it’s running off a USB but 20 minutes seems like at that point there’s an issue

bleak cosmos
#

b) if you have too many internal drives, this may lead to an issue

topaz mason
#

1.0 TB is my regular drive
8.0 GB is the USB I booted off of

bleak cosmos
#

good

#

open a terminal next to the desktop installer launcher, and drag it onto the terminal n press enter

topaz mason
bleak cosmos
#

oh right

#

right click the desktop launcher

#

what's it say precisely in the Command field for Properties?

topaz mason
#

The installer?

#

sudo/usr/bin/live-installer

bleak cosmos
#

copy and paste that into the terminal. with the space where it belongs not as u wrote above

#

press enter for password since this is live mode

topaz mason
bleak cosmos
#

never seen that error. is the usb still fully inserted? was it ever disturbed?

topaz mason
#

Still inserted, haven’t touched it

bleak cosmos
#

do sudo reboot from terminal

#

and verify the ISO from ventoy itself

topaz mason
#

Gotcha, doing that!

bleak cosmos
#

if it matches, just try booting live again, and don't disturb the usb stick physically at all. the installer should launch.

topaz mason
#

Alright, calculating the sum now, thank you again for putting up with my computer being a clunker lolol

#

Matches I’ll try live booting again

#

Ahh, not even a loading wheel again

#

And same Bus Error when taking above steps

bleak cosmos
#

weird. can u post your specs here. do inxi -Fxz from terminal and send photo of full result, maximize terminal.

topaz mason
bleak cosmos
#

the part on drives is a bit troubling

#

show pic of DISKS app with the SSD chosen.. landscape mode

#

no need to maximize the Disks window plz

#

you may have to research what iRST or RST is.

#

then follow:
#1357354361562337392 message <Disable RST without trashing Windows for dualboot (or even single boot install)

topaz mason
bronze lark
#

i'd give my advice on this cuz I had a similar issue (gpumanager was fucking everything up) but my solution was to go nuclear and wipe my SSD so that's probably not a viable option for you.

topaz mason
#

Okay update, correct me if this is wrong, this is new to me, there are two modes from my ASROCK BIOS, RAID and AHCI mode, from what I’m seeing RAID has RST enabled and AHCI does not, however, my computer has been running in AHCI mode this whole time

topaz mason
bronze lark
#

Oh, then that's totally an option.

#

Put Ventoy (if you know what that is) on the USB, put Mint in Ventoy, wipe the disk (make a backup!), then boot mint from the USB.

#

To wipe the disk I had to put a windows disk on Ventoy, and use it to format every partition.

topaz mason
#

I should probs change the name of this channel because we got LMDE7 to boot up but now the issue is Mint’s installer just not working

bronze lark
#

Oh, you got LMDE7 to boot? Not the same issue as me, then.

topaz mason
#

Sadly, I appreciate the attempt to help tho!

bronze lark
#

I was having trouble getting any Linux installation to work. Arch, Ubuntu, Nix, nothing.

#

I wish you good luck on your quest!

topaz mason
#

Thank you, totally not Papyrus

topaz mason
#

Installing Linux Mint icon does not work.

bleak cosmos
#

don't wipe your main drive btw

topaz mason
#

Okie

bleak cosmos
#

not til u sort this installer not launching

#

u can try LMDE6 it's stil supported

bleak cosmos
topaz mason
#

Okay, attempting LMDE6

#

LETS GO LMDE6

bleak cosmos
topaz mason
#

And in this installation process I’m okay to install it to my SSD disk and remove everything from it or is there any reason I shouldn’t yet?

bleak cosmos
topaz mason
#

Let’s go! Windows is gone! Teeheee

bleak cosmos
#

if so, then see #1295728709306683482 INDEX, sections 3-5 for good usage

topaz mason
#

Yup! Looking good :3
