I’ve recently wanted to repurpose an acer aspire 5100 and install Mint onto it, I’ve tried a 64 bit install and 32 bit install, I’ve tried Rufus and Ventoy, I’ve tried both regular boot and comparability boot, the closest I’ve gotten to a boot was on a 32 bit build but it couldn’t find a medium, I don’t know if I need a boot cd or I can keep using a thumb drive to boot with a different build of mint. I’ve tried windows builds on the laptop, however XP crashes before it starts an install and Vista/7 can’t find hard drive drivers.

pay EXTREME attention to step 4b
and all of 6
then make sure to follow the first method here, via 7zip AND the ventoy method: #1420498286912999434 message
Probably somewhere from 05-09, I’m seeing an mfg date of 0612 if that helps
google the exact model release date please
Alright
something truly ancient wont even boot by usb
It was manufactured in 06, the model no is BL51
any OS currently on it?
Windows vista
Alright well I mean the fact that it can’t boot from usb kind of solves my question, and because my pc died recently I can’t do anything relating to downloads, I’m sorry
i didnt really answer it for sure
i said it maybe cant
Yeah
did u even get to white ventoy screen?
as shown here, further down
Yeah I gotten to it
so it it reaches white ventoy screen, then it can boot via usb
just do the verification methods beforehand using BOTH methods
and use ANTIX LINUX full on that ancient thing
if u know for sure the thing supports 64 bit, then antix 64 bit full
Alright
or puppy linux bookworm (based on debian 12)
I’ll try those if antix fails
hello @final pasture , any luck with it?
My bad for not responding in time, my phone hasn’t been giving me notifications, to answer your questions i have unfortunately not been able to continue any further with the Acer as I have no working computer.
you can't boot Vista on it?
and use it to ventoy a stick, and throw one of those ISOs on it...
Oh no I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, when I said I didn’t have a working computer I meant that the computer I would have to do downloads from has recently died
well you can still use Vista to do the download
antixlinux.com should be reachable on it
