System info:

  • OS: Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon 6.4.8
  • Kernel: 6.14.0-33-generic
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-10210U (1.60GHz x 4)
  • Memory: 8 GB (7.5 GiB)
  • Storage: 512GB SSD (541.4 GiB)
  • GPU(s): Intel CometLake-U GT2 & NVIDIA GP107M (GeForce MX350)
  • Display: X11

My screen keeps freezing when I'm playing Minecraft as well as using a browser, even if its for using Discord, which can also cause issues as well. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or not, but unless its because I've switched from Windows after at least a decade or so, but I've reinstalled Linux Mint multiple times.

If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it a ton! I've used Mint before on an old laptop, but unfortunately I've pretty much screwed it up to kingdom come.

Just so you know I'm using Prism launcher as well, and I do have Java installed, unless I might need to get a specific version?

Prism launcher has issues with multi tasking and Minecraft. You may be able to close the launcher and keep Minecraft running? Lutris and Herioc may offer a better experience.

Discord is a memory hog. You can reduce it's imprint by using it's website instead of the exe.

Alright thanks

I'll consider either one of those, and yes I'll use Discord on the website instead

I've always needed to update my mods on the fly

Okay I've got a new issue - I'm getting kinda laggy when I'm playing Minecraft, especially since I've opted to use Brave instead of the other browsers, but even after the "turn it off and on again" solution, its still acting up - perhaps because of my Wi-Fi drivers not being up to scratch?

Do you have more than one monitor connected to the PC?

No

I only use a laptop

Ah, then it's not that obviously. This can cause stuttering and freezes too.
