Use kernel 6.14 instead of 6.11

I bought a 8bitdo 2C controller. It works fine on Windows, but the inputs are messed up on Linux Mint. Some guy on Reddit said Linux kernel 6.14.7 adds support for my controller. So I decided to update to Mint 22.2 because https://linuxmint.com/rel_zara_whatsnew.php says

Linux Mint 22.2 features a Linux kernel 6.14 and an Ubuntu Noble package base.

However, after updating, my Linux kernel version is still 6.11.0-29-generic instead of 6.14.*

Hi VExcess! I believe the current latest for Noble is 6.14.0-33-generic.

However, for that instance, you may setup the Mainline Kernel PPA.

When I try installing 6.14 in the Update Manager it throws an error and it doesn't boot with 6.14 even though it says installed even though the installation threw an error. There is no option to boot with 6.14 in grub advanced options.

Well forever comes across this next. The solution is to uninstall amdgpu

1. sudo dkms remove amdgpu/6.10.5-2109964.24.04 --all
2. sudo dpkg --configure -a
3. Reinstall 6.14.0 in update manager
   Now 6.14 will work.

However my controller still doesn't work.

I say test it out in the live media. I'm not the type to recommend interim releases for no good reason, and I hope people are too.

I wouldn't recommend them. They are debug kernels not suited for production (or daily) use.

@gritty bough are you still without a working controller? I'm considering getting an 8bitdo, but if it doesn't work on mint I might opt to skip it and look elsewhere

It seems fine for Steam games. I think Steam Input remaps the controller input to be correct. But for browser games the input is still all mixed around. However, if I launch Firefox through Steam (only Firefox works with Steam, Chromium doesn't for some reason), then all the controller input goes through Steam before going to Firefox and doing this fixed all of the input except if I remember correctly X and Y are swapped which is something I can live with.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know. Did you have to do anything to make it work with steam games? I am wanting to play clair obscur so I'd like to know what I gotta do to play
