Heya. I joined this server because i have some doubts and want to be responded.
Well, there are actually several reasons why I have doubts switch to Linux:
-I don’t know the current compatibility of console emulators, Clip Studio Paint, and Hoyoverse games (from what I read, it does have native compatibility with Steam, at least Mint).
-I don’t want to risk losing my files when installing a new OS. I never had done it before and i dont have the physical media to save all the data i want.

Reasons i was considering Linux: Windows 10 is reaching the end of support service, and i DONT want to switch to windows 11, its heavy af, uses too much ram and looks ugly.

I dont want to switch from using Clip Studio Paint, im very used to how its being used and the way you can get brushes on the workshop, and i dont want to quit playing hoyo games.

clip studio paint is an issue

#

what you should do is test out linux on an external USB-connected hard drive/ssd

#

that, or dual-boot on the same internal drive

#

if you have a lot of space there. (shrink the main C: volume by about 70 GB or more) leave the gap unallocated.

#

backup your most important files to a free online storage like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive (as a layer of extra safety)

#

see all the links in section 1 here. especially the lower ones: #1383493960474955930 message

you can quite literally try the full-ish experience of Linux right from a USB stick. It's quite literally one of the underrated advantages of Linux

mint 22.2 is ~3gb

#

so yeah

jolly prism
#

fully installed, it expands to about 10 GB (that includes the swap file for virtual memory support)

IDK what is a swap file

the thing that saves your OS from crashing when it runs out of RAM

Ok

the above shows how to have a persistent, portable "live" stick.

#

Said stick can also be used to FULLY INSTALL upon the internal Hard drive or SSD, if you so choose

#

don't use an expensive usb for this. just a basic 8 gig or 16 gig one for small money.

#

you can if you wish - use a portable usb-connected SSD for the above thing
