#Deleting Windows and Combining Partitions
176 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
should I follow it from the beginning and do the same steps?
sorry for the long time to get back, i had something come up and needed to leave
I'll be honest, just migrate the data to all one partition or an external drive and migrate it over instead of having those partitions like that. It will just be confusing in my opinion. Much cleaner
my partitions are already sectioned apart, I was wanting to undo all that and make them one volume again, if that was possible or advised. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?
pretty much follow the guide link
just dont delete the EFI system partition or any ext4 or btrfs ones!
save me (i dont need anything but dear god lol)
oh hard drive, yes.
go to Power Options in your settings, and make damn sure system's "Suspend" on idle is set to Never @still hamlet
at least til this is 100% complete.
im probably gonna change the turn off screen to never as well just to be doubly safe
its desktop, the main concern would be power outtage lol
how's the progress?
@still hamlet finished?
it has finished finally
the boot drive or the hdd?
idk. whatever the hell u jst did for the last 4 or5 hours
moving the one partition of the 2tb drive over so i could give it the full volume instead of partial
if u are only using linux, you should have made half to BTRFS, put all the data of the ntfs side over to it, then eliminate the ntfs. and stretch the other
oh, why is that if i may ask?
im sorry
my example clearly showed the person resizing their ext4.
dog food for dogs, cat food for cat. Linux filesystems for Linux.
yes, but no mention of the btrfs stuff was shown
cuz they wipe windows and moved the linux root
that makes more sense now. I should switch to btrfs for both storage drives im guessing?
alright, sorry for the confusion with it
which I went over
for the boot drive itself, should i do the modifications to its partitions in the usb boot of mint?
This is how it shows on GParted
sorry i started taking a new screenshot right as you said the entire window. I took that first one beforehand
delete p2,3,4
and do what my first link shows then
which is what u were supposed to have done 5 hours ago
.
note p5 is the ext4. do not delete that, unless u wanna say bye to linux.
i figured that was the case
make a temp. backup first
onto ur Chungus drive. of anything you value on the 1 TB nvme before proceeding
@still hamlet
would a timeshift backup onto there also be a smart idea?
meh
wont work since it's not a linux filesystem
can do the half-split conversion first, to btrfs
then do a FULL timeshift backup onto the new btrfs thing on the 2 TB. making SURE u select to preserve user home, and hidden home
Alright, I will do that
is it normal for btrfs storage to just not let you add files to it to begin with?
should've tagged me
U gotta use the DISKS app, gear menu to take ownership of it
only do such thing strictly for data partitions
I feel stupid for forgetting that. I also felt rude pinging after you had been pretty active beforehand
Here is the 2 other drives. How does this look @tiny prairie
if u took ownership fine.
yep, I did
the gaming one should be set to automount to /mnt/
eg: /mnt/Gaming
#1297195485144154164 message
if you use Steam, then adjust steam settings for Storage, to point to that exact mountpoint
alright, and for the other drive, the 2tb one. Should it also mount to /mnt/?
as in /mnt/Storage Drive
alright. it did mount to /mnt/ automatically, but that should be fine im guessing?
make your FULL timeshift snapshot onto the storage drive as i detailed
yep, im about to do that, i just wanted to be sure i had it all setup right first
lsblk -f plz
you may also want to clear all-time web browser data caches before the full ts backup
more /etc/fstab plz
that's some filthy horseshit right there
why tf are two references set to gamin in fstab??
n waht the hell is the fourth-last and second-last line??
i dont know if i should be concerned or impressed i somehow messed up this much
my only guess with the 2 gaming ones is its looking at something related to the drive before the partition got changed
sudo xed /etc/fstab
because the old partition was labeled "Linux Gaming"
do you want the whole message it gave or just the last line?
delete them and show
also your boot drive is now nvme1n1 . i would update that in the commented lines
in place of nvme0n1
the highlighted ones to be sure?
.
yep, change it to /dev/nvme1n1 instead of /dev/nvme01p1?
just the 1 digit that changed
okay, sorry
save the file and exit?
do you want me to run more/etc/fstab again or any other commands?
.
that's just to read long documents
you should first make sure u 'ave ur linux bootable usb on hand JUST IN CASE
then do a test reboot immmediately
@still hamlet
yep, for the timeshift snapshot type, btrfs?
okay
o
since all this fking with partitions. make sureeee u have live usb
Yep, got it right with me
I want to make a joke but I’m also trying to be serious
Well, it booted, but the main screen isn’t displaying lol
It happened one other time but both times are only with restarting the pc
Not shut down
I’m trying to get my main display to work so I can show you the result
win-p
Windows equivalent of refreshing the display?
projector output
righht. so manually click the storage drive in file manager, then clear ur caches n make ur full, and i mean FULL - timeshift
Does that look correct?
yes, i didnt want to put my actual name down lol
i figured id have to be asking about this quite a bit
Alright. After this what should I do?
your boot drive still looks like this presently?
this is it now (timeshift has finished)
k
then follow the advice at the start of this post.
the stuff in the ext4 i'm not too concerned about losing. and just to be sure, make all the non fat32 space btrfs?
later on, adjust your timeshit prefs to not preserve any home stuff
or just follow the start exactly
and adjust the schedule. weekly is enough, retaing 2
alright
no
just resize the ext4. done
okay, thank you
final expected result.
plus or minus 1 MB
I just realized I’ll have to download discord on this lol. It’ll take me an extra minute for me to grab the screenshot
will this negatively affect the GRUB menu, or am i just gonna have to deal with it asking me which OS to boot into on startup?
Looking good before I apply? @tiny prairie
its set
