Can you provide results for the above command in terminal?
i must boot linux to do so
Can you get the hardware ID from Windows Device Manager?
exe files don't work on Linux.
Especially anything to do with drivers.
We'll await your information
you should modify the command to say inxi -SMNxxxz so it includes your OS and machine info. please.
you can boot the live usb, open terminal, and do that command. then photo it.
Tell me exactly what to do
I'm a beginner I don't know commands
The inxi command only works in a Linux environment. From Windows you can https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/install/hardware-ids#obtaining-the-list-of-hardware-ids-for-a-device
linux
i did it
now what?
.
then send
@opal creek
how to photo?

do you have a smartphone?
i did
use its camera
oh
you can't do much with the laptop since no connectivity
i didnt install linux yet but a usb
i know that
and i faced that
we all know that
show the photo of maximized terminal now please
with the result
wait i need my phone
...
Nobody can help without at least the hardware ID
There might be a Linux driver for the aic8800 on github
It is normal for USB devices not to be detected as wifi until a driver is loaded
Wait.. if it's connected through usb then they should run lsusb?
Yes and it may show a different ID if it has storage on the device for that Windows driver
Im a he, now what?
Soooooo?
It likely won't work from Mint ISO on USB
Then?
Then you would still need an internet connection to get it working. There is a list of linux supported USB wifi at https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi/blob/main/home/USB_WiFi_Adapters_that_are_supported_with_Linux_in-kernel_drivers.md
Can't i use my phone as hotspot?
Likely could
After installing Mint on the hard drive, do in terminal sudo apt update && sudo apt install git dkms
Then git clone https://github.com/jzitnik/AIC8800.git
cd AIC8800
Then make && sudo make install Secure Boot has to be disabled in BIOS, then reboot
Are the files safe?
And why do i need to disable secure boot?
Secure Boot needs to be disabled so the kernel will load the driver, it should be safe as I don't think github would allow it to be there if it wasn't
Can i enable it after?
Not unless you use MOK to sign the driver
If i don't enable secure boot would that be a problem later? Or a security problem?
I don't have Secure Boot enabled on my computers and don't have issues
You might but didn't notice?
Nothing as far as I can tell. It is easier for me to leave Secure Boot disabled as I do a lot of Bluetooth testing making changes to kernel source
From what i know secure boot is a local problem unless you give access to other things
A lot of problems that can occur in Windows just don't happen on Linux. Secure Boot requires a signed bootloader, now the bootloader requires a signed kernel and the kernel requires signed modules with Secure Boot enabled
Hotspot? You mean USB tether?
Yes
There is malware on github
Github isn't flathub
Oh no
Then what now?
i guess you can trust it
... and have someguy who lives in basement watch?
i mean, if the code is there you can take a look at it
well then i wouldn't need to open this forum!
Essentially
yeah
Or you can get an actually supported wifi adapter
preferably intel
as it's plug and play
Intel doesn't make USB wifi
