I'm extremely new to Linux and I wanted to keep my current windows setup, so i decided to dual-boot Mint cinnamon and Windows 11. I did some amount of research beforehand to avoid destroying all my data and such, and successfully managed to get mint running, but it feels pretty slow and lags/freezes quite a bit. Here's a rough description of what I did:

  • created the installation meedia per instructions on the mint website
  • backed up my existing data and turned off secure/fast boot (Windows)
  • shrank disk space (via windows) to allocate space for the linux install (I allocated 100GB of space, because that's what I read when I researched)
  • restarted my PC and installed linux (dualboot seemingly works fine with no lost data but i will update if this changes)
  • started using/figuring out mint and installing my frequently used applications
this is where I started noticing issues. I looked through my settings (Mint Cinnamon) and found where my resource usage and disk info is, and looked through a few relevant posts here (I saw one recommending to turn off the memory limit in general settings and that seems to help very slightly) but honestly I'm not sure what to do, or if I meesed up somewhere.

I managed to get it to work finally, right now things are running pretty smoothly, and I did nothing but wait?
