this happens to me all the time. What you can do is enter TTY (ctrl+alt+F1-6 keys). Login and restart your desktop. You can try some commands ChatGPT suggests, I even created alias for that. I don't know right in this moment which commands I use, but if nothing works let me know, I'll get them later. I am on XFCE though, proprietary nv driver.

I get black screen with mouse cursor visible often. Restarting desktop environment helps. I am not an expert and I didn't dig deep into what is going on, yet. It maybe Nvidia driver problem, could be many things.
