Yeah, one of those pages is outdated. If you install cinnamon-doc and devhelp you can probably use the other tutorial which is slightly different (uses modern javascript i think). Also use ChatGPT to help you.

go into terminal and type "xkill" on x11 it will do the same thing as the applet. as thats what the applet does. launch xkill
