The only Linux that works on the new M macbooks is Asahi Linux
It works but isn't perfect, so make sure you know the limitations of it on the exact model of macbook you have
linux mint is not on arm and so definitely not on apple arm. try asahi linux instead.
you can see device support section on this page. generally M2 work excellently.
i tryed that already the only major issues i face with it is type - c port desktop connectivity.
