my old laptop does not support vulkan and direct x is only on windows so is it possible to dual boot windows 10 when currently your machine is running only linux mint?

yes. You need to first shrink your linux partition, or use a second SSD.

#

if going with the first option, use gparted from the Mint live ISO booted from USB or DVD to do that. (also keep it around, because you may need its boot repair tool later, in case adding Windows breaks the boot)

if using a second SSD, unplug the first one with Linux on it, and you won't have any issues of potentially losing data or bootloader.
