so i just started using linux for the first time and when i was about to install the nvidia driver when i rebooted it wouldnt let me change the resolution and the refresh rate

seems like your driver for xorg failed (failed: nvidia). can you apply all the updates in update manager please?

Add space after quiet or splash and add nvidia-drm.fbdev=1
Save the file and exit text editor
In the terminal type sudo update-grub
restart after done
