#I borked my partitions
84 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Resetting the computer fixed it. just took a bit.
I tried to delete the post but I eneded up just deleting my message lol
anyway, thanks
So..... what's the situation now?
windows installed, linux not installed
windows was reset and the partitions were fixed by the reset
Do you want to try again?
Not right now. I may try tomorrow or wait until I have another hardrive as I only have one hardrive rn
alternatively I could just get rid of windows and not worry about dual booting but I still might need windows in the future
Ok, a few tips that might help avoid problems in the future:
Disable fast startup in windows
Disable bitlocker if it is used
Disable secureboot and fast boot in bios \ uefi
Ok! thank you!
From what I remember in your original message, I'm guessing the first warning (that you accepted) was about attempting to resize windows partition, and the second one (that you went back on) was about formatting the new partition after the resizing.
Could I do a full install of cinnamon using the "wipe disc" install option and still keep the windows license to install later if I get a second hardrive?
Great, can you access both windows and linux?
I decided against using windows at all
I am just using linux now
I have run into some new problems though, should I make a new post in mint-support?
driver manager is not loading
Maybe I can help right here
ok, I have been waiting for maybe 10 minutes for driver manager to get off of "looking for drivers - please wait..."
is that a problem?
or should I just wait longer?
No, it is usually a few seconds
I have also had problems installing some things
like what?
commands starting with sudo usually dont work
my user has administrator permissions and is in the sudo group
E: Type 'sudo' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
only one related to the dvd
Ok, let's check things one by one. can you make screenshots?
Is there like a snipping tool for linux?
also, it seems that I have installed a program using sudo
so some dont work, and others do
Element worked but Signal did not
yes, just click the menu and start typing screenshot
I was trying to recreate it to take a screenshot
but it worked lol
it seems I was copying and pasting the lines incorrectly
Even though that works, my driver manager still doesnt stop loading
If you can make screenshots now, could you go to the terminal and run
sudo apt update
screenshot the command and the result please
I just tried reopening it and it loaded?
Since driver manager and update manager (and software manager) use the same tool under the hood, you can't use them at the same time
That's good )
you can use
systemd-analyze
in the terminal to see how much time the latest boot took
36s? you're on ssd I'm guessing
is that considered fast?
im on ssd
you were right
Thank you so much for helping me, your a gem.
restarting now
Go ahead )
ok, updated
Great, does everything work?
lemme see
I also love the fact that when you search up task manager it comes up with system monitor
Seems like everything's good
If there is a new problem then I will research it first then make a ticket if I need further assistance
How did you make
Is there anything I can do to thank you?
Then just set up timeshift, if you haven't already and you're good to go.
My DMs are also open if you'll have questions later. I may not know advanced stuff, but I'll try to help
Maniak2000 I need help
one at a time
Ok
@fathom bronze I'm guessing we're done for now?
it seems, yes
Ok.
@vast arrow what's up?
