I've recently installed Linux mint and I'll be honest, it was an impulse, I decided to fully delete the previous OS I was using (Windows) and was confident I could manage because all of the information I had seen online said that it was super easy to game on Linux. Now practically all my steam games run like slideshows, I've tried using ProtonDB to figure out if the games I want to play are just unuseable on Linux but all of my games seem to be playable with little to no tinkering.

I've tried plenty of different proton versions to see if that might make my games run smoother but the differences always seem miniscule at best. At this point I'm not sure how anyone can make the claim that gaming on Linux is easy, from my POV you have to sift through dozens upon dozens of proton versions just to find one that'll run the game higher than like 1 FPS. I'm really hoping I'm just missing something obvious and that somebody could help me with this.

Ok upon further inspection of what's going on I have nailed down a consistent issue with trying to play steam games,

Whenever I launch a steam game, my CPU usage shoots up to 100% probably causing the terrible FPS which makes the games unplayable, my question is what could be causing this and how can I fix it. I currently have Nvidia drivers installed if that would affect anything.

your games might be configuring shader. I can't remember the exact words. it takes a long time the first time and works you system hard but once it's done things should become much better
