idk which usb u tried but probably it's your port then

#

use a BLACK USB 2.0 port . do whatever you have to do to get that.

#

and make sure it fits damn snug

mighty latch
#

Ok I’ll try again with 2.0

quaint gust
#

use ventoy, and check the checksum from the second white ventoy boot screen,

#

and compare to the sum on mint site for a perfect match

mighty latch
#

Did that already it’s a valid iso

quaint gust
#

on the usb stick itself?

#

cuz that's always where teh problem lies

#

is shit flash

mighty latch
#

Fair

#

I’ll give that a go then as well

#

I verified on windows originally

quaint gust
#

see #1295816480256163892 following extreme attention to step 4 b and ALL of step 6 perfectly

#

and do the flash on a 2.0 port too

mighty latch
#

I see this in the console before crash

#

This was on usb 2.0 and on GPT file system

#

ISO was verified

#

I’ve tried 4 different USB slots

quaint gust
#

bad, bad luck with your usb's then

#

if you have a second pc in the house, and a router, and this pc above can connect via ethernet, then u can do a LAN installation

#

@mighty latch

mighty latch
#

Oh I might try that

quaint gust
#

or

#

do this...

#

do have 2 hdd in this pc?

#

are u planning on wiping one to put Linux fully installed on it?

#

@mighty latch

mighty latch
#

yes

#

i am planning to wipe a drive entirely

quaint gust
#

maximize DISK management Window, and show

mighty latch
#

?

quaint gust
#

open Windows DISK MANAGEMENT. maximize it. show.

mighty latch
#

disk 2

#

is the one that ive been trying to install it on

#

this screenshot is before reformatting it again after failed install

quaint gust
#

show current ss

mighty latch
#

that is it

quaint gust
#

u have the known-verified mint ISO on Disk 3, in C: somewhere, yes?

mighty latch
#

disk 2

quaint gust
#

wtf

#

well. get a well-verified ISO onto your C: DRIVE

#

preferably in the root of C: FOR SIMPLICITY

#

then boot ventoy, hit browse, n go there

mighty latch
#

i can browse into my C drive in ventoy?

quaint gust
#

yes

mighty latch
#

whaat. Ok ill try

quaint gust
#

instead of booting the iso from the SHIT FLASH

#

boot it right from C:\

#

u can still do the checksum too

mighty latch
#

ok so where do i install ventoy then?

quaint gust
#

no where if it's on ur usb stick already

mighty latch
#

ok got it

quaint gust
#

get ur KNOWN-WORKING ISO on the C:\ root now

mighty latch
#

ok

quaint gust
#

verify it from powershell even

#

once it's in the root of C:

quaint gust
mighty latch
#

yea i got that part done for an iso already

quaint gust
#

ensure there are NO ISO's on DISK 2 at this time. to avoid later confusion

#

then boot using the browse thing i said. then once at live desktop, do efibootmgr in terminal

mighty latch
#

Yup just did that

quaint gust
#

also do msinfo32 NOW from windows run box

#

oh u left windows?

mighty latch
#

Well can’t rn I’m booting yea lol

quaint gust
#

is it Win 11?

mighty latch
#

Yea

quaint gust
#

ok then it's UEFI for sure

#

show efibootmgr results please

mighty latch
#

Give me one minute something unexpected happened when booting (full system shutdown)

#

Yea i think i have a deeper issue going on here. I tried both iso files the way you mentioned and both are verified and yes I’m on UEFI

quaint gust
#

are u in live desktop yes or no?

mighty latch
#

no

quaint gust
#

@mighty latch

#

wel... do so?

mighty latch
#

you want me to go back into the mint live boot?

quaint gust
#

boot live.. at this point, i dont even care how u do it. just get into live desktop of mint

mighty latch
#

alright

quaint gust
#

i asked for efibootmgr

#

and not to jump ahead

mighty latch
#

Once in live how do I open efibootmgr

quaint gust
#

ctrl-alt-t then type it

mighty latch
quaint gust
#

good

#

so u booted the ventoy usb n did what, the one on the flash, or browsed to the c: drive to load the ISO this time?

mighty latch
#

Browsed this time

quaint gust
#

ok open gparted app from the start menu

mighty latch
#

Opened

quaint gust
#

look in the top right selector

#

u have TWO 1 TB (931 GiB) drives

#

make sure to choose the one u want to wipe for linux

mighty latch
#

Done

quaint gust
#

show pic of the whole window

#

and dont cut anything out of frame

mighty latch
#

It’s still formatted from the last try

quaint gust
#

ur extremely sure that's the one?

mighty latch
#

Yea

#

Very sure

quaint gust
#

ok now to prepare it

#

right click the red swap partition .. do 'unmount' or swap off

mighty latch
#

Ok done

quaint gust
#

then after it is put out of use, go to the Device menu item. choose 'create new partition table'

#

and make it as GPT.

#

after that is done. run the installer, do the something else option.

#

or even the "install alongside windows" option would be just fine.

#

it will summarize it will create 2 partitions, an ESP and a main root ext4 one onto the dev that ur seeing right now in gparted. note its dev name

mighty latch
#

Ok will do. The installer is crashing whenever I try the boot from C option. I’m gonna try feom USB one more time with the new changes we just applied

quaint gust
#

k

mighty latch
#

I’ll lyk when done

mighty latch
#

Same error

#

I’ve been trying for a few hours loads of different things idk what the problem is

quaint gust
#

u chose the 'install alongside Windows' option?

mighty latch
#

No i chose the “something else” option

quaint gust
#

open DISKS app and choose the hdd u want linux on, that we earlier wiped. take a photo of its model and serial number

#

once that is done, powerdown

#

unplug all other drives inside the pc except the one u just noted

#

then boot live, and do 'erase disk and install'

#

i've seen many times too many disks always screw things
