I have been trying to get mspaint from windows7 running, (I downloaded it from this archive https://archive.org/details/MSPaintWin7), with no success, I downloaded a bunch of depedancies, and a service pack, redownloaded wine a bunch of time, and that's how far I've gotten

I do NOT want an alternative, because I already have one, I want paint only for silly reasons

(I use Arch Linux, KDE Plasma)

I also am hoping to get MS paint (with the win7-10 interface) working on mint.
I have attempted it with steams Proton.
Researching Paints depenancys. MFC42u.dll being a key one.
Wine may have more of the dependencies necessary for Paint as Proton is geared for gaming.

you can get the linux-native kolourpaint installed in the slimmest fraction of time.
