#How to turn off Bitlocker encryption on all drives
113 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
First try telling Windows to turn the encryption off, which should decrypt the drive - needs the password, of course.
how do i tell windows to turn that off?
Accounts restricted, you can't
i have the password
Hold on isn't it already off
I haven't used Windows for ~10 years, I'll leave this to Arzumify.
That lock icon says its off
right....then why does linux ask me to turn the encryption off
It shouldn't do; send the screenshot
Mint shouldn't care about bitlocker at all in a fresh install
well it cares when it has to access the drives to perform partitions right?
okay sending
yes you definitely need to turn off bitlocker
Bitlocker is partition level, not drive level
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
if ur gonna totally wipe a drive, then it doesnt matter
sorry im noob care to explain how they are different-
but if ur gonna shrink partitions etc, to dualboot on a single drive, it def. matters
Yeah, this was what I was referring to
i have an empty drive
Wait... a different drive to your C:?
oh okay
yes?
around 70 GB i was going to use it for linux
Damn good thing it did complain, you almost deleted your entire drive
A physical different drive, or another partition?
wtf.
physical diff drive
You must have selected your main drive by mistake in the installer.
i have did the ventoy thing on that
even with a second drive, yes u may install linux, (and just erase second physical drive) but WINDOWS FAST STARTUP must be OFF
Ah yeah, then it wouldn't pick it up
i checked its off
You can't install to the disk you're booted off of
damn- now what do i do-
ventoy the usb, so it becomes an installer
not on the drive sorry
then install onto the 2nd hdd
Oh, were you trying to install to a USB disk?
yes i did the ventoy thing on usb stick
then i booted it
and i selected the language
then multimedia codecs
open the disks app in the accessories category of start menu in mint
warning: this will be super slow and mint will be not very usable
well i had to exit that because it asked me to switch off my bitlocker encryption
um wdym?
okay
USB sticks are very slow and not suited for running an OS
aah but i will install it on my drive later right?
show us a pic of windows disk management. thee FULL maximized window
okay
for further help
no.
ventoy is my usb stick
windows disk management, please
hold on, I'm a bit confused now
do you have a drive with windows on it, a drive you're installing Linux to and a different USB stick the mint installer is on?
or do you have a drive with windows on it and a USB stick you're installing Linux to that also has the mint installer on it
ty
hope this helps
you have too much crap
yea ik-
u dont have a second physical hdd
oh thats required?
the ventoy usb is ONLY an installer (live session)
right
it's not mandatory,
but u will definitely need to make a solid empty (unallocated) space on the main drive
but isnt it tough to get second physical hdd -
um the h drive isnt enough?
the one labelled CHILL is indeed enough. just decrypt all first
okayyy!
bitlocker off: , then decrypt all.
oh okay
as per google or ask leo
i will the watch video
then in disk management, just delete CHILL
okay
so it is just an empty "unallocated" space of 78 Gigs
CHILL is a partition, not a drive. So you will have to disable bitlocker.
okay
and check fast startup is indeed off.. do powercfg /a in cmd prompt
checking
disabled
excellent
then eventually when you boot mint, u will (definitely make sure) to pick "install alongside Windows" . it will detect the big gaping 78 gig space and straightaway install there.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaahh got it
thanks bud!
you already have 8 partitions. so it will confirm before installing, in a little text box.. "create new ext4 partition on sda8 (or maybe 9)
or it may say nvme0n1 instead of sda, if ur using nvme
oh
u can view it from DISKS app in mint before running the installer, and get familiar with the dev name and the numbered partitions
k good luck.
thanks i will tag u here if i need something!
