#Xorg crash with AMDGPU and Firefox
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
apparently the problem is coming from the browser Mozila Firefox...
i don't get much informations about it
and i don't know how to solve it
what does inxi -G say?

How much RAM?
One thing that causes freezes is for instance running entirely out of ram
Also hardware failure, overheating, etc
Why do I see a service to check the checksum of the iso? Is this the live environment rather than an actual install?
If it is really just Firefox crashing X consider disabling hardware decoding of video, note not all hardware acceleration just decoding
32 ddr 4
no
idk is it weird to have a checksum service ? and yes it's the live env
ok
ok so A) check the checksum of the iso
B) consider using a different usb drive if A) isn't the option
its probably a defective download
of a driver ?
yes i have kali "booted" on a key to manage my computer volumes and other stuff that i can't manage from the linux mint OS
no its probably a defective iso file
which is why the instructions are to check it by comparing the checksum of the iso with the published checsum
which would indicate a defective usb drive, defective iso file, defective memory, or some unforeseen software defect
the highest probability is the iso file did not download correctly
you can verify that its correct by checksumming the iso file used to create the live usb
since this will keep you from creating a working install you should do so
oh ok i see
This is the most obvious, likely, and trivally reproducible error and thus worth tracking down
oh god
was that it?
i have the linux mint 22.1 Xia 64bit.iso
but now how to get the the good checksum from the web ...
its on mints website
it's too hard to check the good one beetween all versions...
no it just isn't
you don't have to compare it to all possible versions
the filename should tell you exactly what you have
it is because i don't remember if i got the french version of the english one
so
oh ok
is there even a french version? I thought you just picked the language at startup?
look here there a ton of versions : https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=319
Linux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.
https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/linuxmint/stable/22.1/sha256sum.txt only shows 3 versions
you are looking at different mirrors
just for us it's like more than 5 versions...
which aren't different ISOs
what is the differences with "mirrors" ?
a mirror is a different place to get the same thing
its not a different thing
the link I showed you with 3 possible checksums for the different desktops is all 3 options
i think i am lost explained like this... 🤣
there are only 3 numbers
get the checksum of your file
and see if it matches one of them
the 3 numers are on https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/linuxmint/stable/22.1/sha256sum.txt
its a single text file
you also probably remember what desktop you picked
so there is really only 1 number to check
i have to go to linux mint to check the iso file ot the liux mint ?
really ?
it's what they say on their official page
I don't know what you are trying to say
you checksum the original download you downloaded to create the usb drive
it doesn't matter what you are booted into
i mean i want to check the iso file because this file is on a different computer
which is why you were supposed to do it beforehand
also you do realize you are supposed to use the mint usb to install an OS to your computer not use it as an OS right?
yea i see
i know now that is important to check iso file i was thinking there enough redoundant data (like zip files) to not check it
no
if you want a perfect download do it via torrent
which does checksum the chunks
ok
since you didn't do that I suggest you boot up the other OS OR mount the filesystem
oomg it's taking a day
integrity check is right
ok so unless the problem re-occurs assume there isn't one
...
if you see a re-cocuring issue look deeper
what does that mean?
it's the second time i got a similar crash (but last time i didn't check terminal info)
well we see at the third time
ah... every day i got updates from linux mint
you realize that you aren't meaningfully keeping updates between reboots right?
live usb basically reverts to default state the second you reboot
you are intended to use it to install your OS. If it has crashed more than once AND the iso actually checksummed as correct you should consider using a different USB and checking your RAM
then install the actual OS and update to latest updates
and THEN if the hardware is logically sound you should troubleshoot crashing
