I am extremely new to linux (imagine a 2 day old baby tyring to use a computer) and would like to get my fingerprint scanner to work. I looked around some, found a list of supported scanners, and mine was not in the list. luckily, after pasting my specifc "Id thingy" into google, I found somebody made support for it. To me, the instructions are very unclear (being new to linux and all). If anyone could give me a step by step for this (if possible, and I imagine its prolly a bit to ask) that would be very appreciated.
#06cb:00be Synaptics (fingerprint scanner) Setup Confusion

first make sure ur scan device is what the articles mention
tis, I checked that
install hardinfo then launch it
it should give full details in the 'usb devices' or input devices listings
ik its the right one, I ran "lsusb" which gave me the 06cb:00be id, which I pasted into google and found that reddit post with the software
im now extremely confused on how to get it working, the guide in the reddit post, to me, seemingly starts in the middle. Im not even really sure what to do with the github files
so the black pages sum it up
the only thing that was glossed over is the " I synched the git repo"
which should be covered in the git readme file on the github project
likely along the lines of 'sudo git clone yada-yada`
yea, thats another thing. I had no idea git was an thing you could install, having recently switched from windows. ive just been taking files from that site for a while
one windows i was taking them i should say
then get all the extra packages the black page thing guy mentioned he also needed
alright
I kinda switched impromtu (i'd been contemplating it for a little bit) after I had my final straw with drivers issues on windows 11
good luck
thank you
I feel like Dr. Frakenstine making a monster, since I converted my lenovo yoga and am now tyring to slap together an on screen keybaord for touchscreen, as well as getting the touchscreen itself working better, but ive made alot of progress on thosxe and dont really need help
tablet mode my bane
mint comes with onscreen keyboard u can bind a hotkey to, or use the accessibility applet added to panel (see APPLETS)
can also install onboard as an alternative onscreen keyboard, and make a launcher for it on panel
I do have onboard
Which I have set up to only appear in "tablet mode" with the event trigger thingamob it has, but the weird thing is that it only auto comes up when I'm in terminal
On opera or Discord it doesn't appear, but I can figure that stuff out
the finger reader?
YERRRRR
neat
kinda finicky on the lockscreen but it works soooooo
ur lucky that code works cuz they're often impossible to get working
