#Bricked my mint after purging all gnome related

try either 'resume normal boot'
or if that gets you nowhere, then choose again from purple here: "Drop to root shell prompt"
then do all of this #1308495927019048961 message
Thanks
I'm in class rn, but i left my laptop installing back gnome
Cuz i removed all things that have words "gnome" related that this happened
Alright I'm back
Uhm yeah, nothing works
I have so many files that are missing
The only way is to reinstall
tip: dont do that again because you'll break your system, again
Yeah, I'm trying to stay on xfce from now on
make a live usb, back up all your files to a different drive than you use for the installation. Reinstall Mint
I cannot stress enough that a reinstall doesn't preserve any files in your existing installation
back up everything you anticipate keeping
So I'm trying to repair it instead of fresh install
I can go into tty
But i cannot go to normal login window
@fierce field
Sorry bothering you 😔
In a bit, i did update and upgrade
Waiting it to finish
Or should i just ^c
do the things above
Right away
Done
it took that long?
My wifi didn't send the message 😂
did it find timeshift?
Snapshots
Not found
sudo apt install mc && mc
Just / and enter?
go into whatever, weekly
Nothing there
But i have one on snapshots
what date
go to "on-demand"
On demand is 0
just to check
Nothing there
Exited
ok good u have plenty of room

- Run the timeshift restore command:
Type
sudo timeshift --restoreand press Enter. This will list your available snapshots.
Select a snapshot:
You will be prompted to select the snapshot you want to restore. Enter the corresponding number and press Enter.Confirm settings:
The system will present you with a few options to confirm, such as reinstalling the GRUB2 bootloader. Follow the on-screen instructions.Start the restore:
Once you've confirmed all the settings, the system will begin restoring the snapshot.Reboot:
After the restoration is complete, the system will typically reboot automatically.
Hmm it says command not found in the 1st step
check exact spelling
/etc/timeshift
which timeshift
Timeshift not found
Alright
No snapshots
But i literally do timeshift before
Sadge
Is there a command that can reinstall back missing package?
Forgive my Idiocy, i shouldn't have deleted things
boot the live usb, and try to run timeshift from GUI
I can't do that, i left it at my hometown. Thx for helping tho. It really seems fresh install is the only way
does not matter. it shows example
do this:
timeshift --list --snapshot-device /dev/sda2
No snapshots found
Corrupted perhaps
ok then do sudo apt install --reinstall mint-meta-xfce
Done
let it run
Note: I don't mind losing all the data
u still need a live usb to do a full reinstall
how is it finished so fast?
did it show installing a ton of stuff?
Idk
do whereis lightdm
and also whereis gdm
/usr/share/gdm
try sudo reboot
Rebooting
if it doesnt work, u need to mask or kill gdm service, and enable lightdm service
I have dpkg reconfigure lightdm many times. Ig i need to wait the boot splash logo to finish
you can buy another $10 usb drive and make a new one
I can wait for a week 😂
And then I'll grab my usb at my hometown
what happened?
Nothing I'm still waiting in the boot logo
just do log in from cli, and do startx if u dont get log-in manager screen
press Esc. and see where it's stuck on
Haha, that's impossible
show it
My esc have been broken for 5 years now
use caps as escape
Thank you for your help
