#

follow the steps carefully

#

if you're going to use your sda 240 gb drive on linux, reformat it to ext4 filesystem

thin socket
#

show a pic of either DISKS or gparted of your nvme selected

#

just read efibootmgr entries carefully, and remove the WIndows Boot manager entry as shown

#

if you later choose to put Windows on the 240 GB drive, be sure to disconnect the nvme temporarily before attempting to install Windows to sda

thin socket
#

what is on partition 1? I see 10 GiB used

#

and p4 shouldn't have a hidden flag

#

run disks app please

#

click the nvme, click partition 1, click the blue text link under it.

#

then show what the file manager which opens next shows

#

click blue link under p1 and show it

#

ok it's just 10 GB used up in formatting overhead

#

what u really should do is after dealing with all of my video i sent, REMOVE that hidden flag u went n put for no good reason on the linux partition

#

then boot live usb, delete only p1 and move the rest left

#

don't touch anything else

#

right click the linux partition in gparted, > manage flags, uncheck the hidden flag

#

show result of efibootmgr now

#

ok that part is done.

#

do sudo nano /etc/default/grub

#

go to the line where it says grub timeout= and put it to =2

#

also the line of grub timeout style, make sure it says menu

#

let me know when done.

#

change to menu

#

it's good to have grub menu show in case of some emergencies

#

ok u put timeout to 2 ?

#

see the bottom of screen. ctrl-o is to write (save)

#

then press enter

#

then ctrl-x to exit

#

yes just press enter

#

there's currently NO Windows OS on the sda drive right?

#

well it's all ext4 filesystem, so i guess not

#

now in terminal, do sudo update-grub to commit the changes that u just made in the grub file.

#

after it's done, sudo reboot

#

you could blank it out now from gparted and just leave it unallocated.

#

simplest way is select sda, go to DEVICE in menu, create new partition table (if there is nothing you need at all on sda currently) and make it as gpt (GUID partition table)

#

is this after rebooting?

#

if it's mint 22.1, then why does it say 20.3

#

kek

#

is that what u are seeing in front of you RIGHT NOW? after the reboot?

#

what the heck is happening

thin socket
#

just usual fun stuff, Lot. good day

#

cleaned up old EFI entry of Windows, still needs to resize partitions from live mode

#

log in from that TTY1 using your usual username (in lowercase) and password (exact lettercase as you had made it)

#

once logged in, try startx

#

yes. paswword will type invisible

#

did it say much?

#

now if the graphical x session is started, press ctrl-alt-F7 to swich to it

#

looks like mess to me.

#

wtf did u do?

quiet nymph
thin socket
#

then you should get extremely familiar with the DISKS app

thin socket
#

not in this ticket.

#

did u make a timeshift snapshot?

#

if not, boot the live mmint usb, move any data u want to keep onto sda, and reinstall linux fresh onto nvme

#

boot the mint live usb now on this computer please

#

then launch timeshift from there, and do 'restore' to the latest snapshot it finds, before the mess happened

#

it's doable but leave arch alone for this week til u learn more

#

yes

#

for now restore mint with timeshift

#

if u are in desktop rn, just run timeshift

#

and 'restore'

#

when did the mess happen?

#

for this black tty1 screen

#

ok so just restore yesterday's

#

u may later adjust grub menu again like we did before

#

1 sec

#

yep hit next

#

it's going to replace just efi and p6

#

with the supposedly "good" backup

#

all good now?

#

Yeah I mean it fixed the trouble entering the desktop issue didnt it?

#

u need live usb n gparted from there

#

delete p1, and move efi to far left, dont STRETCH; MOVE

#

Then move p6 to left so it touches p5 (efi pt'n) that's it. done

#

u can leave rest unallocated for later if u want Arch.

#

see gparted help file n read n learn it good before messing

#

watch full vid. it's really simple

#

lol damn.

#

1 hour for 19 megs

#

the blue link for the tar.gz

#

not the green link

#

this if official site, as techhut mentions in the video. has many many good documents too.

#

what are u talking about?

#

open disks app

#

do u see the usb stick in there?

#

show full pic

#

click the play icon

#

for p1

#

then copy the iso over to it.

#

and whenever u attempt to pull out a usb stick, either turn the PC off fully. OR use the eject icon in file manager, or in the tray area, or the stop button here in Disks.

#

open applets

#

look for an applet named 'removable drives' and click + button

#

just read up n see what i wrote

#

move the partitions to the left after deleting p1. all from live desktop and gparted.

thin socket
#

DO NOT FUCK IN THE RUNNING OS

#

do u understand boot live

thin socket
#

what r u trying to run?

#

did u fix ur partitions yet?

#

u got ventoy ready. just copy mint iso to it

#

it comes with gparted already

#

boot ur pc to usb device

#

u will see ventoy screen like techhut vid shows

#

start mint there

#

u at live desktop now, @dusk pelican ?

#

norm. always norm

#

ya

#

that screen says OEM install as option 3 or 4. that's how u know it is live grub menu

#

not any grub from the existing install

#

run gparted from start menu

#

pick the nvme

#

right click efi: move/resize

#

then grab the sizer box IN THE CENTER OF IT and drag it all the way left

#

do NOT drag the edges!

#

repeat for the mint ext4 partition.

#

u gotta click the move button after dragging

#

then show pic of main screen once u moved both

#

dont hit final checkmark til i see it

#

it has esp, boot flag. shown in the chart under the "FLAGS" column

#

just follow what i wrote exactly above

#

move, then next

#

turn camera properly next time

#

i dont want to break my neck

#

good. hit checkmark and wait some minutes

#

after it finishes, if u want a bit more room for Mint, righclick mint pt'n again> resize. in the new size field put 512000 MiB and press tab, then the resize button

#

tab as in tab key.

#

u'll then have almost half the drive split evenly. u can at some point if u study HARD, put some other OS on the empty half

#

i wouldn't even bother with arch

#

you can put something easy like kumander linux on the other half. or modicia OS

#

dont mess with PopOS or arch, it will fail the Mint bootloader

#

is it finished moving operation? @dusk pelican

#

did u extend mint one?

#

show final pic

#

u might as well do it her

#

here

#

choose smaller drive in gparted selector box

#

it should probably say sda, and size 240 gb or so

#

is the drive picked?

#

sda or whatever

#

yes.

#

wait

#

do that for the 240 gb sda

#

that will clear it.

#

when need to put windows os, it will be ready.

#

ok. done

#

reboot to ur main Mint install now

thin socket
#

just squashfs dont worry

#

pull usb if u havent and force restart

#

there on left. circled red

#

the empty one 240 is dead empty, no filesystem. wont show. until windows is put

#

that's it

#

Disks app will show all, but dont touch anything, just observe

#

and check timeshift program's preferences

#

if too many, just put for once a week

#

it's normal, and dont touch

#

if too many old timeshift snapshots, just delete. save one or 2

#

preferences> schedule

#

put only tickmark for weekly, and save 2 for it

#

u can manually delete any very old ones from the main timeshift window

#

u can watch bottom line in file manager to see free space

#

yes

#

that way, no chance of mistakes,

#

just make sure to discharge static electricity from ur body

#

on grounded computer case or grounded metal before touching m.2 or anything inside

#

aight bye

#

SOLVED (used efibootmgr to rid old uefi entry, gparted from live usb session to fix/remove/move partitions, and timeshift restore for another log-in issue)
